Ashfire padded into camp and turned to enter the Medicine cat's den. She was startled to see a little tabby kit rumaging around among the herbs.
"Leafkit? What in StarClan's name are you doing?" Ashfire demanded. The kit looked up with a guilty expression on her face.
"Sorry, Ashfire. I tried finding Spottedleaf or Foxleaf but I couldn't. Mama had a bellyache so I thought I would bring her some herbs. Juniper for bellyache, I think... But I couldn't find any." She meowed with a sigh. Ashfire blinked. She had no idea if the kit was right or not. At least she wants to learn... that'll probably made Goldenheart's job easier. Ashfire thought.

Goldenheart nodded, smiling. "Very good. That is perfectly correct." She said with a smile. "Chervil Root and Watermint work too. Would you be interested in being a Medicine Cat Apprentice?" She asked with a purr, hoping the kit would agree. Convincing wouldn't be as easy as just accepting was.

Leafkit didn't recognize the she-cat, but as long as she was with Ashfire she figured that the cat was good.
"Oh I would love so much to!" She exclaimed, her eyes shining. Her face became dismayed though and she sighed.
"But Spottedleaf already has an apprentice..." She murmured sadly.

"Dearest, I'm afraid Spottedleaf and Foxleaf were killed. I am the new Medicine Cat, and you can be my apprentice." Goldenflower said with a sad yet frindly smile.

Leafkit's eyes widened in horror.
"Spottedleaf and Foxleaf...? How?" She asked, too saddened to rejoice at having her dreams fulfilled. She had never wanted either Foxleaf or Spottedleaf to die... She'd admired them...

"A dark cat murdered them. I am so sorry." She said softly, resting her tail-tip on Leafkit's shoulder. She knew how hard the news must be, especially from a stranger.

Leafkit looked down at her paws. She had admired Spottedleaf and had yearned so deeply for the she-cat to teach her, to be near her and approve of her. She had followed the Medicine cat around, trying hard to learn all the herbs so she could help. And then Foxleaf had come and Leafkit had been cast aside. But she had still followed. She had still poured her heart into being with Spottedleaf. Now she was gone. Who could have done such a thing? Leafkit thought sadly. She looked up at Ashfire, a wordless question in her eyes.
"We don't know who or why." Was the soft response. Leafkit looked down at her paws. Silver tears filled her eyes and she tried to brush them away with her paw, but they wouldn't stop.
"W-why...?" She mumbled to no cat in particular.

Goldenheart sighed sadly. She felt bad for the kit who had just lost her role model. But Goldenheart knew what being let down felt like and understood the pain Leafkit was feeling. If only she couldbhave helped the poor thing feel better some how.

Leafkit managed to stop crying. She looked solemnly and Goldenheart, her amber eyes dull still with sorrow.
"I would be very honored to learn from you." She meowed quietly. And one day... perhaps one day I shall be ThunderClan's medicine cat...

A black and white spotted shadow appeared at the medicine den first, then the full bodied warrior. "Hello," she says softly, eyes questiong Leafkit and the newcomer. "I am Pandapelt. Who are you? Where is Spottedleaf anf Foxleaf?" She had sworn to StarClan she had heard 'I would be honored to learn from you,' from Leafkit. So what happened to Spottedleaf and her apprentice? Where did they go? Pandapelt felt a flash of shock and worry go through her. Are they dead?

Goldenheart smiled softly, looking over at Pandapelt. She seemed nice enough. Well, she was nice enough to a complete stranger. Goldenheart blinked but said nothing, figuring that it would be best for a trustworthy warrior to explain the current situation the Clan was in. It might not be as easily or loyally accepted if Goldenheart spoke up. So she sat down and waited.

Ashfire blinked and sighed.
"Spottedleaf and Foxleaf were killed... This she-cat Goldenheart has come to replace them." She said quietly.

Pandapelt sat down, shocked. Her eyes went blank momentarily, and she fianlly found her voice. "Dead? Who...killed them?" Who in the right mind would visciosuly attack Thunderclan's medicine cats? It must be SilenceClan. They'll kill the whole forest if we don't do something!

Ashfire hesitated.
"Well... I think it was either Tangleroot or... well, I'm sure he was connected to the murder." She meowed darkly, her eyes burning with hatred. How could he betray us? She thought furiously.

Goldenheart remained silent as the two talked. The forest had come to dark times, and StarClan didn't meddle. Or atvleast not all of the starry warriors did.

Leafkit was tired of hearing of murders and traitors. She dipped her head to the older cats and raced out of the fern tunnel, into the camp. She paced forward until she was far enough away from the tunnels that she couldn't hear them, and sat down with her tail dangling in the dust and her shoulders slumped. I can't believe this... this is happening... She thought, turning just in time to see two appretnices carrying in the body of Spottedleaf. Leafkit turned around quickly so that she wouldn't start crying. It's just too much... Oh StarClan, why? Why did you take Spottedleaf away? She thought mournfully.

Goldenheart turned and wordlessly began to sort the herbs like her old friend had. Because of her sister she had played the most important cat to her Clan. ThunderClan was her Clan as it had always been. She was grateful to be back. If only he could be with her...

Ashfire sighed and dipped her head, then exited the fern tunnel. She padded towards Firestar's den then stopped. The grey she-cat cast a glance over her shoulder, then continued to where her mate usually was. She sat down outside the den and stared at her paws. She wanted his comfort, his presence... but he had other things to do. Ashfire turned and blinked. She padded across to Spottedleaf and Foxleaf's bodies and began grooming the former. Are you proud that your daughter will be able to follow in your pawsteps, Spottedleaf? Ashfire wondered silently as she groomed. She noticed Moonpaw licking Foxleaf's neck, her fur fluffed up slightly against the breeze that had cooled with the coming storm. Ashfire looked up and sighed. The heavens are preparing to weap for us... have we truly come to this?

Goldenheart could hardly believe she was here. I mean, she had been here before... in a way. As a kit, she had looked up proudly to Wormfur. Her sister had only wanted the power that came with it. Her sister had won. And she had visited that den every day to help Crypaw because of her sister's stupid mistake. But then again, not everything had turned out badly. Because she had proved her worth to her Clan, and she had found Chaserlight. And Rainbow and Darkerstorm had been valued Clan members. If only Hatekit could have been one of them. She sighed, continuing to sort in a much older fashion than most modern Medicine Cats. That was how she had learned it.

"Ashfire..." A soft voice interupted the she-cat's mourning. She looked up and was startled to see the look of sorrow on Moonpaw's face. It was so twisted she almost didn't recognize it.
"It was the same cat..." She whispered. Ashfire blinked, confused.
"What do you mean?" She asked. Tears were forming in Moonpaw's eyes.
"The same... cat..." She suddenly turned around and bolted out of the camp. Ashfire leaped to her paws.
"Moonpaw!?" She cried, startled by the cat's sudden fleeing. What had happened? What had Moonpaw meant? Where was she going?
