Gaara heard something and turned to watch Birdie. She was saying something, if not consciously, but something nonetheless. Gaara watched in puzzled curiosity, but finally he just grew tired of trying to figure it all out and laid his muzzle on his forepaws. He was startled awake by a strange sound and he started, his claws coming unsheathed and his fur fluffed out as he leaped onto his paws. He accidently hit his head on a bar that ran across the corner of his den - he'd always slept in the center before Birdie and Longan had come - and he winced as he looked at the others.
"What's happening?" He demanded.

"Bad dream.... Dream.... She said I was..." The tom gasped, choking. Birdie leaped up after Gaara. She looked at the two toms and then shook her head, confused. She couldn't get sleep like this. "I'm going for a walk..." She said, slipping quickly out of the den as Longan settled down, still panting from his nightmare. "I'm fine." He told Gaara quietly.
[[Gaara should follow Birdie]]
Birdie found herself an alley over, picking the bones out from underneath an old twoleg bin. There was a rib bone, two toe bones, and the skull left. The rest had been picked by other animals. The skull was the important part. She admired it's rough nature, scratched to bits with the passing of important things. She marked a few claw scores on it's top and smiled. "Marks for my friends Gaara and Longan, and for finding a love that won't kill me like you will." She said, admiring the skull sadly. "I loved you, why did you try to kill me?" She asked the skull, rattling it with a paw. No answer. She growled, scratching over it's eyes again and hissing darkly.
[[Methinks Birdie is crazy...]]

Gaara watched Birdie and then turned to Longan.
"I'll be right back. Stay here and count mice. It helps relax certain types of muscles for some reason." Gaara meowed, padding outside and following Birdie's scent. He watched her dig up the bones and listened sadly as she spoke to the skull. She must be tortured by that just as much as I was by Runningsoul's... He sighed.
"Birdie?" He asked quietly. He wondered what she had meant by love, but he didn't linger on it very long. That wasn't what was important right now.

Birdie looked up from her skull, the motherly essence in her eyes gone. "I am responsible for seven cats deaths. One of them was my love, and one was only a kit!" She said in despair, trapped in her emotional memories. She had definitely been through quite a lot through the past. She caught his gaze with one of distress and despair. How could she, the innocent housecat, be so evil inside? "I killed a kit, Gaara..." She said, disbelieving.

Gaara looked into her eyes and felt his heart swell. He wished he could be of comfort, but he just didn't know what to think.
"It's Ok, Birdie. I understand. Believe me, I do. I'm as guilty as you are..." He meowed, and then took a step forward.
"I understand." He murmured.

Birdie nodded, feeling a lot better. "I killed a kit who came to me looking for help." She said sadly, shaking her head. It was all behind her now, and she could do nothing about it. "Have you ever hurt someone you love?" Birdie asked softly, standing and taking a step closer to Gaara.

"Yes," Gaara murmrued softly, "Many times over. I... I was forced to kill someone very close to me when I was younger, to stimulate my bloodlust. And recently... you remember Chaos mentioned a cat named Runningsoul? He was a good friend of a cat who meant a lot to me... I can't believe I killed him and made her think I was a monster." He meowed, shaking his head. Perhaps I am a monster. Or was. Not anymore, though. He reassured himself.

"Will you ever make it right?" Birdie asked softly. She could never redeem herself for killing any of the cats. She stared up at the twinkling stars and wondered if one of them was Fell. He would want her to be happy, right? Wrong. He'd have wanted her to be his, for himself bring happiness. That was what Birdie had learned. But he had pretended he had meant good. That was the Fell she wanted to remember. But Birdie figured Gaara didn't care for her. She did think of him as a good friend, but was he more to her? She had to be careful about love. "I wish I could redeem myself."

Gaara sighed.
"In my head, I know I can never really right the wrongs I've done. But in my heart, I know I can redeem myself and pay back the lives I've taken by saving those of others. I want to be good, and I won't let anything get in the way of that. Not my enemies, not my family," he shook his head and sighed, "And not my regrets. I can't tell you to do the same, but I can tell you that it's helped me stand firm. Only a moon ago I would have killed Longan before ever thinking to take him in. Now I find that he means a lot to me, like the little brother I... I never had. And I would never have met you, either. I would have sorely regretted that." He meowed, smiling at her. Birdie certainly was beautiful, and he felt a bit of the warmth he had had for Ashfire stirring in his chest. Could he really love Birdie like he had her? He hoped so, and yet something told him that he was only bracing himself for rejection. After all, who would love someone who had killed so many cats? But then, she had killed cats, too. Perhaps she was different. Perhaps Birdie understood.

Birdie smiled, nodding. "Thanks." She said, looking at the skull. She smacked it back under the twoleg bin along with the other few bones and sighed. She knew she was probably going crazy, but having a psycho-murderer cat next to her was a lot nicer than crazy Fell anyway. Birdie sighed, wishing she knew what to say. Suddenly, she turned and faced Gaara, her eyes glowing in the moonlight and her pelt bathed in a ghostly white. When she spoke, it was not her voice but another cat's. "Longan's place is not here, and I am afraid you may have to let him go. His destiny lies with other cats." For a moment, Birdie looked like a strange blue-grey cat with soft blue eyes, powerful and majestic. It faded quickly, and Birdie blinked in confusion. "What... did I miss something? Everything went black and I... I..." Birdie shook her head, shuddering. She had seen cold orange eyes telling her Longan could never leave her sight...

Gaara watched Birdie carefully, his spine tingling as she spoke. I wonder what that means...? Maybe Longan's destiny lies somewhere beyond mine. It's sad to think about that. He thought. Gaara was surprised when she seemed not to remember what she'd just said.
"Well, I can't say you spoke very comprehendingly but I suppose it was a prophecy of sorts. I'm not the most superstitious type but I believe that it's wise to head words of dreams." He muttered.

Birdie blinked, shaking her head sadly. "Nothing unusual. I think I'm on the verge of insanity as it is." Birdie said with a sigh, shaking her head. Weird things kept happening, and she wanted to just start over. She had been through too much, and was balancing delicately.

Gaara smiled slightly and shrugged.
"Insanity makes life interesting. I believe we're all a little insane. Some more than others. You and I are probably as insane as it gets. Perhaps we'll cancel each other out." He meowed, laughing.

[[Is Gaara ever going to learn that Ashfire is pregnant?]]
Birdie purred happily. She felt so much more comfortable, so much happier, around Gaara. He was an easy cat to talk to, and easy to relate to. She came and at next to him, staring up at the moon that was just a small half-circle in the sky. "I used to do this." She said, leaning up against Gaara and reminiscing in the old days of fancy food, warm beds, and shiny dishes that were filled with sweet cream. It was those nights she was glad to have left behind for this.

OOC: Maybe, should fate ever bring them together again.
BIC: Gaara didn't feel uncomfortable as Birdie sat down beside him and leaned her warm body against his. He looked up at the stars and his eyes were inevitably drawn to the moon. She was that lone goddess in the sky, shining brighter than all the stars. The maiden of the night, the queen of the sky. Gaara remembered all the tales his mother had told him of the sun and his love, the moon. How they had been forbidden to see one another, but how they rose every morning and every eve because their love was so strong they would never give up trying to finally meet each other. The story was sad, but Gaara had always liked it because it was such a nice thought, having someone who would never tire of you, never want to leave you behind. Gaara turned and looked at Birdie. He didn't know why, but his thoughts tangled with the story and he found himself wishing that maybe she would be his moon.

[[Cute!!! You know, Longan is destined to become Longfur of TC so maybe...]]
Birdie could never have asked for anything more, anything better. This was about as good as it got. She finally began to accept that she had feelings for this tom, and that he completed her. She watched the moon, then cast a glance across the swath of stars above. Was Fell watching her? Was he laughing now? Birdie had never had a way with words, and admitting love had been one of her hardest struggles. She couldn't admit it to anyone, most of the time not even herself, when she had feelings for a tom. Like Fell. She was grateful though, because something about Gaara made her a lot happier, and made her want to be a better cat. Smiling up at a bright star, she knew eventually she'd have to accept what she felt. She had already accepted it herself, but had to accept the fact that Gaara deserved to know.

OOC: That'd depress Gaara so badly, and yet somehow I like it XD
BIC: Gaara felt the silence more than he reveled in it. Usually he didn't mind the quiet, but the absence of words left him feeling somewhat hollow. He wanted to hear Birdie's voice. He wanted to see her smile at him as she was smiling now at the sky. He wanted her to know how much she meant to him. Gaara looked at her in the moonlight and wondered if he had ever thought of her as anything but beautiful. His feelings for Ashfire had been acute and powerful, but he wasn't sure anymore that he loved her as much as he did Birdie. All he knew was he would give his life for either of them, and Birdie was here, and she was now, and he did love her more than life, more than the breath he took. He looked down at his paws and wondered how he could ever tell her. She had been betrayed by love, as he had betrayed Ashfire, but would she open her heart and accept him? He had never really worried about being rejected before, and the thought stung more than a memory ever could. He looked up at her and sighed.
"Birdie..." He murmured gently, his tortqoise eyes soft as they gazed at her.

Birdie was lost in thoughts of what life could have been like. She could have been a beautiful kittypet, sweet and gentle with loving housefolk. She had been so spoiled. Golden bell, brilliantly soft bed, fresh water and cream, and moist, savory food. She wondered if she might have ever met a tom to love. If she hadn't killed Fell, if she had always believed he was the one, where would she be? Lost and alone, afraid as a tom pretended to love her and then treated her like trash because he could. Birdie was here and now, however, and somehow she did not miss either life. She realized that she would die a thousand deaths for Gaara, where she had known she would not give her life for Fell. She had been certain he would give his for her instead. Selfish. But now she knew no such selfishness. All she knew was Gaara. His sweet voice penetrated her thoughts, and his mysterious blue eyes were a thousand times deeper than the deepest oceans. Birdie was drowning in their beauty. She heard him speak and wished she could never hear more. Never see more. Maybe if this moment would last forever, she might finally have found happiness...

Gaara was dumbfounded by the depths of Birdie's gaze. He had never felt such a fierce fire in his chest, and he at that moment that he had found not only love, but the truest love he would ever know. He could not let Birdie leave. He needed to tell her. He needed her to know. He needed her. Gaara did not know what to do. He didn't know what to say. But somehow he didn't really care. He wanted to speak to her, to tell her he loved her... so he would. It was as simple as that.
"Birdie... from the first moment I met you I knew you were different somehow, but I wasn't sure how at first. I don't know or understand a lot of things, but I am positive of one thing..." He took a deep breath and stared intently into her eyes, "Birdie... I love you. Like the stars love the sky and the water loves the earth, I love you with all my heart and my soul, and I would give it all away to protect you. All I ask, the only thing I desire, is your love in return. I know I must sound like an idiot, but I'll accept that. I can't say anything but what's on my mind at this point, so I'll just sum it up. I love you more than life, and I want you to love me too more than anything." He meowed almost too quickly at first to comprehend, but he said the last sentence with emphasis, his eyes imploring and his heart hopeful.

Birdie was shocked speechless. She could hardly breath, let alone give the tom an answer. The handsome, loving, perfect tom an answer....... Birdie knew what to say, but she could hardly begin to summarize it. She loved him more than day, night, life, death, her own soul's worth. She'd trade herself away to the devil for all eternity if it meant he could love her. And he did. She had to admit her feelings sooner or later, and later may be too late. At first Birdie could only stare, amazed, but finally she spoke.
"Gaara, I'd cross the land just to bring you back a sparrow's feather. I'd cross the planes of time just to hear you love me. I would climb mountains and swim across oceans just to see your eyes... I love you more than anything, everything, life and death..." Birdie said, feeling overcome with love and happiness all at once.
