Chaos's cold eyes examined the she-cat beside her brother. She had an odd look about her. Kittypet by the scent. Chaos knew her type well enough, but there was something odd about about this one. She knew not to take appearances for granted. She flicked her tail tip against Renegade's shoulder. The whiskers above his eyes raised slightly and he sent her a look, but he said nothing - much to his credit. Gaara was bristling and had fierce anger in his bloodlust eyes, as usual. But there was something else... something about the way he stood with his shoulder slightly turned to the she-cat. He was protecting her. He was conscious. What's happened to the little Killer? Hmph. It doesn't matter. Whatever it is it has made him weaker. Considerably so. Chaos thougtht with a wicked smile.
"So, Gaara... does your little girlfriend know about Farside? Netherlight? Runningsoul?" Chaos asked with a silvery, enticing voice. She could see she hit a chord with each one, but it was the last name that visibly devestated him. His eyes widened and his shoulders drooped. He looked horrified at himself - imagine that. Chaos was wild with glee at this victory. Their brother had gone soft. That would not play out well for him.
"Aw, did I hurt the big kitty Killer's feelings?" She sneered. Gaara yowled with fury and crouched, his teeth bared.
"I'm not that cat anymore. Just shut up!" He growled. Chaos laughed.
"Do you really think you can put them behind, Gaara? And now... let's see... yet another fatalilty will be added to the list of cats you've been responsible for. What's her name this time?" Chaos asked, turning slowly to the she-cat beside him.
"You touch her and I'll slice you into three pieces and throw whatever's left to the dogs!" He yowled. Chaos grinned.
"Ah. Looks like this one'll be the worst, huh?" She asked her brother. Renegade grinned crookedly.
"It's only fair, sis." He growled, taking a step towards the she-cat. Gaara growled and moved to intercept him.
"I don't think so." He snarled, bristling.

Birdie didn't care what he'd done. He wasn't Fell. He'd never be Fell. She smiled, looking at Renegade. "I could care less what he's done. If it made him happy, I'd let him kill me." Birdie said with a smile that shone with the countenance of a star. And she meant every word. If the tom, or the she-cat, tried to kill her she knew she might be able to defend herself. Maybe. "But I must ask what you mean by 'Killer'?" Birdie asked the two, not letting her guard drop. Maybe she could find a way to keep these cats from hurting her. Or Gaara. Maybe she could get them to go away. She couldn't bare to spill innocent blood again.

Gaara froze, turning to look at Birdie. Did she... really mean that? He saw Chaos grin and laugh.
"My two brothers and I," she cast a frosty look at Gaara, "Grew up in a pact of Rouges called DesertClan. It was nothing like the Clans here, or even remotely like SilenceClan. Back there when a cat was born with a certain... bloodtype or something like that... they would be raised as what we call Killers. Cats with only the instincts to kill and do so without question, following their leader's orders at all times. Gaara... is one of these. My father trained him and he was so good at what he did. Too bad he had to go soft." Chaos chuckled softly.

"And what makes that so bad, dearest? If he hadn't, I never would have met him. He is the Fell without a false appreciation for me." Birdie said with a sigh. She didn't care what Gaara was, just so long as he kept being who he was. She would kill this she-cat now, she would die trying, she would do it all for Gaara. Because the of it was, Birdie loved him.

Chaos eyed the she-cat and then laughed harshly.
"I suppose so. Fate plays odd turns. But I do so feel sorry for the many, many cats he slayed merely because they stood before him. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he killed you in one of his berserk rages." She chuckled. Gaara's eyes were slowly turning red, his lips curling farther and farther back.
"Sis..." Renegade meowed softly, staring intently at Gaara.
"Well, that's a bit better. He looks much more vicious now, does he not? But don't worry. We won't fight today. Just know that we are watching, Gaara." She flicked her tail and grinned, then turning and padded back into the brush. Renegade hissed at his brother and then followed. Gaara stood stiff, the fur along his nape spiked up, his eyes blazing. But the red was beginning to fade...

Birdie shook her head and sighed. "You have one wacky family. But I have spilled blood my fair share as well." She said with a sigh, not even wanting to name the cats. Oke, Fell, Startled Heron, Stork... Her soft gold eyes twinkled with guilt. Only Fell had been slain by her claw, but the others were all dead because of her anyway. She wanted to brush up against Gaara for comfort, but was afraid that he would take it the wrong way and have nothing more to do with her. Eventually her heart won out, and she set her head against his neck softly.

Gaara stiffened at her touch but did not move. He was beginning to see more clearly, but the bloodlust was still ringing in his ears, making his head ache. He could hear Birdie, though, and feel a strange ache in his chest. He slowly lowered his head and brushed her muzzle gently.
"Sometimes... sometimes things happen... and all you can do is learn from the past." He said gently.

"I know. Let's go get Longan." She purred, soothed by the tom. His bloodlust was nothing against Fell's rage, or what she had seen of it. She began to wonder why the she-cat and tom hate their brother so much, and why they were so intent on spying and killing. Birdie let the thought go, though, figuring they were like Oke or Fell or the others. They were just all plain crazy.

OOC: Not exactly XD
BIC: Gaara nodded.
"Yes. That would be best." She murmured gently.

Birdie turned to see a frightened-looking Longan standing hidden behind some grass. "I-I didn't want to leave you be-hi-hind..." He said shakily, terrified. Those two cats had mentioned that Gaara was a killer. Would he kill Birdie? Would Gaara kill him?

Gaara turned and saw Longan. He smiled, but some part of him wondered what the cat had heard to make him so scared.
"It's Ok, they're gone now. I won't let anyone hurt you." He said. Including myself. Gaara thought solemnly.

Longan nodded. "Okay... Let's go." Birdie nodded, running up to the kitten and nuzzling him softly. She whispered something into his ear, and he seemed to brighten up a bit.

Gaara nodded and his smile faded. Something about Longan's behavior had startled him. But then, Birdie's had, too. So, what? You are shocked when someone stands by you when they know the truth, and yet shocked when they are repulsed by you. I wonder what doesn't shock me. Indifference? Gaara thought, sighing. He looked at the two and then shrugged.
"Wherever you guys want to go." He meowed.

Longan nodded. "Wherever can we go for rest?" He asked, yawning. The sky was beginning to grow dark, and it was probably time for a good sleep. Birdie smiled, sighing. She knew who she loved, and this time it wasn't a crazed maniac who wanted to kill her. This time it wasn't false love. This time it was true.

Gaara closed his eyes and thought about that for a moment. A place to sleep.
"Well, my favorite place is a bit of a ways from here. It tends to smell like Twolegs, too." He paused when he realized what he had said and he blushed slightly at his blunder, "Er, not that I expect that would bother you. Otherwise there are some sets and other cavern-like things to rest in around here." He meowed, his tail tip twitching slightly.

"I can handle twolegs." Longan said, leaping at a leaf and wrestling it, tearing it to shreds. Birdie smiled at the kitten's play. He was really such a cutie. She nodded. "Twolegs are fine."

Gaara gave a slight nod.
"Of course. Follow me, then." He meowed. He had never taken any other cat to his den, but he expected it didn't matter much now. Birdie and Longan were like family - and not the sort of family that Chaos and Renegade were. He followed a distinct path along the ThunderClan border and then over three Twoleg fences. Gaara padded to a low gap in the hall of an alley, where a twoleg fur fell over it somewhat. He turned and flicked his ear, beckoning them inside. It was roomy enough; there was room for at least five cats if they were snuggled close together. Gaara spread out some of his Twoleg furs and moss he had collected and made two more trees.
"Make yourself at home." He meowed.

Longan piled up more natural, earthy things for a nest like he was used to. Birdie gathered what scraps of anything to make her nest favorable and soft. Longan had practically destroyed what Gaara had made for him to make a more natural, leafy bed like home. Birdie gratefully took those scraps that he threw out for her own nest, which soon grew very big. She smiled, looking sweetly at Gaara. "Thank you." She purred gratefully.

Gaara nodded. He was feeling somewhat awkward with other cats in his home, but he ignored that fact and curled up in his nest. He sighed and laid his muzzle on his forepaws. Chaos knows more than I could have thought... this is troubling... He thought, staring ahead into the shadows of the den.

Longan slept soundly, exhausted from the day's exercise. Birdie was having a little more trouble, however. Old memories were reawakened, new friends made, and strange coincidences. She began to mutter to herself, hoping to fall asleep. "I killed seven. Was responsible for their deaths. I loved four of them. I was one's mate, or so I thought. Now he's dead. He's buried an alley over. I don't think I myself am far from good now, maybe worse than he. Fell didn't deserve death, just a smack on the face. And where is he now? The king of life had a wife, where is she now? Hmmm, bally strange lot of a rhyme, what?" Eventually her senseless muttering faded as she fell into a light, troubled sleep.
"Come..." "Where?" "Come..." "Where?" "Follow me, sweetheart..." The voice was silky and sweet, like diamonds or silver. Following was instinct, and not a choice was given. Feet flying after the voice, it echoed pointless and empty. "You're a fat old tabby who'll never make way in the world. You'll end up like the others yet..." The voice hissed, a dark smile spreading across the black ahead. She was fully visible, a beautiful calico with entrancing indigo eyes. "Fat old fool..." "Take that back!" Lunging at the pretty she-cat, she vanished in a pool of blood. "Longan.........."
"AHHHHH!" The golden tomcat awoke with a start, screaming as if something was slowly eating him alive. He panted heavily, catching the horrified gaze of a startled Birdie.
