Renegade breathed a relieved sigh. Gaara eyed him for a moment, then crossed the den and sat down beside his mate.
"So what are you going to do now?" He asked his brother. Renegade looked at his paws, then sighed.
"I have to get Chaos for what she's done... but I can't do it alone." He looked up, his amber eyes hopeful. Gaara sighed.
"I suppose I can help you..."
"You'd really do that?" Renegade asked, awed. After all, I did kill your mother... He thought.
"Yeah. I can't say I'd want to help Chaos at all." Gaara said, curling his lip slightly.

Birdie sighed. "If you must." She said lightly, watching as her kits seemed to bring enough peace. Then she watched Fell's eyes flicker open. A beautiful blue like his father's.

Essence sat in the center of the circle-river and stared at the black memories that caused her to recoil. She wanted to leave that dark place in her mind and stretch her consious back out into her body, but she was curious. She searched for something to hold onto, something to see that would not cause her stomach to clench. She finally dabbed at one of the memory-stones and pulled it up to her chest, licking it and coaxing it to allow her to synchronize with it. Essence opened her eyes and found herself sitting beside a small tabby she-kit, staring at a playing litter of kits.
"Why can't we play, Chaos?" Essence's lips formed the words but the voice that came out was male - husky and upset. Essence felt herself - the self behind her eyes - grow bitter at the sight of a ginger kit playing happily with another brown kit.
"Because we are inferior. I will be a hunter and you a fighter. We have no special purpose. We cannot be with the killers and healers and the important kits." Chaos growled. Essence was almost knocked out of the memories by the thoughts that filtered through her mind. Such strange, calculating thoughts. Questions that startled her in their depth. This cat behind these eyes... he is so... so... She had no word to describe the intelligence she saw in her memory-thoughts. She released the stone into the pool and watched it float away. She closed her eyes and allowed herself to spread back into her own body. She was behind her own eyes. She was alone in her mind, and it was the present, not the past. Essence felt a strange itching at her eyes. She ignored it though. She just wanted to rest, to rejuvinate her weary spirit. Switching between the dark realm of her mind and her living body was tiring, and she fell into a light doze as she allowed her energy to be replenished.

Birdie gently strokes the other two kits with her tail. "Are you going to open too, or is your brother special?" Birdie coaxed the other two kits over to her and sighed as they began to suckle. "Names?" She asked Renegade curiously.

Renegade blinked.
"Um... Barley and..." His stressed mind couldn't find the other name. He could only think of Rebel. The kit his sister had stolen...
OOC: Remind me of the name... I'm spacing out... ^.^

[[Ivy but maybe Birdie'll name her...]]
Birdie smiled. "Barley, and then the she-cat will be Ivy. I love that name." She said with a purr.

Renegade nodded. That sounded good. Gaara sighed. He felt uncomfortable beside his brother, but he said nothing. He figured he'd just be unwelcome if he started making a fuss. Instead he began cleaning the ruffled Barley, feeling his worried, nervous feelings melt from him.

Birdie smiled but thought silently about the nights past. She needed to tell Gaara. Tell him her whole life so no more surprised fell upon him like this. But not with Renegade in the room. She gently cleaned Ivy and remembered the days long ago. It was very strange that Fell had been the only one to open his eyes.

Essence woke from her sleep and rubbed at her eyes, trying to get rid of the odd itch. Finally she opened them, revealing her pale kit-blue eyes. She blinked and took in the scene around her. Her mother, father, his brother, his brother's mate and her mother's daughter, her half-sister, Foalan. Essence took it all in with her own eyes, her own thoughts. Nothing in this place was unfamiliar, and yet she was seeing it herself for the first time. It filled her with awe and wonder. These are my memories. My thoughts... She thought with wide eyes.

Birdie smiled and purred but said nothing. Rustling of distant trees and hum of distant shores. Shores Birdie didn't know of the significance. She smiled but said nothing as Startled Heron sat deathly still. She had that eerie that came about with death. But he eyes quickly opened and Birdie sighed with relief. She was okay. For now.

Essence blinked and looked up at her uncle, Renegade. She had seen some scenes from his life, felt the emotions that had run through him, but she couldn't fathom much of what had gone on inside of the tom. She sensed the same with her mother, her father, even her aunt Foalan. Essence wondered if she truly would ever understand the depth of knowledge and feeling that dwelt within other cats. Perhaps it is something I must first experience... She thought.

Birdie watched her kits and began to wonder what the future held. Gaara's words hung deathly still in her heart, and she wondered if they were true. Were her kits really all that special? "Gaara, when I was born I was a kittypet." Birdie realized that she needed to tell him everything. Her whole history. Then maybe there'd be no surprises. "A show cat. I had a mate at nine moons, and three kits. You know that much. Then I went on to meet a tom who I thought was my true love. He tried to kill me, I don't know why. He got mad when I said..." She stopped, shaking her head and sighing. "He thought I was pretending to love him to get to someone else so he attacked. Then I killed him. I had never used my claws before, not even to trim on a scratching post or tree or anything. First time I had let them slide out. I became a wildcat. Then I met you." The summary of her life was too brief for even Birdie to appreciate, but it worked. For now.

Gaara listened to his mate and stared down at his paws. It did seem short, her life's story, and his would take a little longer to tell. He felt a bit of happiness in his heart, though, that she would trust him with her deepest secrets. He sighed.
"I guess life can be cruel, huh? I can't say I'm glad that you went through all that... but I am glad that you did in a way. After all, the path you'd led has taken you to me." He purred. Renegade blinked and stared at him, then turned and looked at Foalan.
"Did you tell her of mother, Gaara? Of father? Of DesertClan?" He asked quietly. Gaara turned slightly to his brother and sighed.
"No, I've not said much I don't think." He said. Renegade smiled.
"What? You didn't tell her the epic story of the Great War or the death of Stonesun or Dawnsun or the abandonment of the tragic Tigersun? Those are such nice tales, don't you think?" He murmured, and a sad look crossed over his face. Gaara flicked his ear.
"Sad tales is more like it. Sad, lonely tales of cats bound to hate who fell at the paws of a rouge Clan." He growled. Renegade nodded.
"Yes... that would seem to be the case here, as well. We must be bad luck, you and I. Or perhaps our sister brings tragedy wherever she goes." He muttered.

"Please tell." Birdie said with much interest. Maybe he'd lie, too. Maybe. She hoped not, but at this rate it seemed highly likely. After all, why would he tell the truth when it came to such painful memories? It was very hard. But maybe he trusted her like she trusted him. Maybe...

Gaara looked up at the roof of the den and heaved a sigh.
"Oh where to start? I guess the beginning... you wanna help me a bit?" He asked Renegade, eyeing his brother. The tom snorted.
"You really weren't taught much were you?" He asked, shaking his head. Gaara sighed.
"Not really. I was "special"." He growled.
"Sure, sure," Renegade muttered, "Well, DesertClan was basically a formation of... you could say treacherous Clanners. The other Clans, BoulderClan, PrairieClan, HillClan, and GrassClan, tried to fight us many times. BoulderClan was led by Stonesun, PrairieClan by Tigersun, HillClan by Dawnsun, and GrassClan by Rainsun. Our father led DesertClan, whose sole purpose was to destroy and conquer the other Clans." Renegade murmured, his eyes somber.
"Yes. I was raised as a Killer so I could be used as a weapon against the enemy. Any kit born with my... unique qualifications as they were called... were singled out from birth." Gaara meowed. Renegade nodded.
"One had to have certain abilities." He murmured.

Birdie bit her tongue, trying not to laugh. Her mate was sounding just about insane at the moment. She didn't know much about Clans, but she didn't believe a word the others were saying. Suddenly, she looked over at Foalan who coughed piteously. Birdie leaned over to lick her gently, to soothe her, but Foalan whispered something into Birdie's ear and the she-cat stopped. Foalan's last breath shuddered out and Birdie's eyes turned pale as a ghost.

Renegade was about to speak again when he noticed Foalan whispering to Birdie. He pricked his ears forward and blinked, focusing on his mate. He crept forward a little and his ears flattened as he sniffed at Foalan.
"Is she... ok...?" he asked hesitantly. Gaara stood beside him, staring down with sad eyes at his mate's daughter.

"She's dead..." Birdie said, but wasn't saddened or startled at all by that fact. It had been coming. It had been what Foalan had said that had brought the golden she-cat at a loss for words. "Renegade, I'm so sorry..." She said in a ghostly manner, her eyes wide with fear as she pondered her daughter's dying words.

Renegade turned away. His heart had skipped a beat and he felt as if he had been plunged into icy water. He turned slightly and stared into nothing as he thought.
"I'm returning to SilenceClan. I will get my revenge, be sure of that." He growled. He began walking away, but Gaara stopped him.
"Why do you continue on the path of evil, brother? Why won't you just follow us?" He asked quietly. Renegade paused. He didn't look over his shoulder at his dead mate, or his brother, or his brother's mate. He just stood there, silent. Finally he spoke.
"Because my last hope is dead." He meowed, and then dissapeared into the tunnel. Gaara looked after him, and then down at his kits.
"You're wrong... your hope is still alive. You just have to believe that, Renegade..." He whispered.

Birdie shuddered and sighed. She felt horrible that poor Renegade had lost his mate. But her thoughts flickered back to her daughter's dying words. She couldn't get over them, and it made her feel sick with horror. Yet Birdie didn't understand why. They weren't something to fear, for certain. They were just... Not normal. It had caught the cat's mother off guard. She then looked at her mate sadly and sighed. But what did you mean, Foalan? What did you mean, 'See you in two sunrises?'
