The tabby tom sat on the Twoleg bridge, his thoughtful grey-blue eyes on the frothing waters in the distance, where the waterfall fell from his Clan's river into the gorge where many a cat had died in the countless seasons of the Clans. He had heard tales of kits even falling down the gorge - perhaps they were the tales of one of the Warrior codes, the one about helping all kits, but he never remembered it. He'd heard it during his short stay in ThunderClan. They were very fond of stories, ThunderClan. Not so much of battle, though. That was ShadowClan. He'd traveled so many places, had so many adventures, known so many cats, lost more friends than he had claws and whiskers...
And now he was the leader of RiverClan.
The unwanted kit, abandoned by not one but four Clans, left to die in the wilderness, raised by rouges...
A leader.
The thought still numbed Wolfstar sometimes. He sat contemplating at a place where he'd sat even as a rouge named Wolf. He remembered those lonely times, watching over his birth Clan and wondering if they were survive. They hadn't been doing well back then... And he remembered bringing them fish, despite his own hunger. He remembered the gratitude on that she-cat's face... that one, beautiful she-cat.
But she was... out of his reach. Even as leader, he was not handsome or charming, at least in his opinion. He had a steep forehead, which most cats - other than he - would think attractive yet exotic. His ears were well proportioned, and his tail was somewhat long, the fur uneven towards the middle but resolving itself near the tip. His belly fur was also somewhat long, and thick, as was his spiking neck fur, which might have instigated a name like Wolffur had he not been as lucky as he had. Most of his fur was a base lighter grey, like stone, but it faded to a bit darker towards the back, and a very dark grey stripe ran down his spine. Black stripes melted to un-marked legs, and ginger tufts of fur marked his neck and chest and a bit of his flank. His muzzle was stripe and so were the areas between his eyes and his nose, making him look somewhat foreign but in a very alluring way. His eyes were all misty grey-blue, not at all different really, besides a darker rim and a few triangular streaks into the mists that led to his slitted pupil.
He turned to listen to the sound of the forest, wishing somewhat that she would come, tell him she was glad he was Leader, that she was glad she had asked Stormstar to allow him into the Clan... But what were the chances of that? She was too good for him, anyway.
OOC: If you like, Emberstare could melt a little into his past. A >nameless< she-cat caught him leaving the fish after he'd been doing it a while when the Clan was faring badly, and she invited him into the Clan and convinced Stormstar to let him return.

Splashing water, birds singing, leaves rustling. Nature. That's all the young muscular she-cat could sense. Her amber eyes looking but not seeing. A dark red she-cat padded confidently through the territory. Ears, nose and paws leading her. The she-cat could not see by seeing but by hearing, smelling and touching.
Emberstare paused, a familar scent flooding her. Memories veiled her mind, a grey tom stood there. Wolf. She watched the meeting play out in her mind as she led Wolf to camp. She watched as a freshly healed apprentice begged Stormstar to let him in, Now he was leader.
Emberstare padded towards the bridge, sand turned to wood as she reached it. Her paws guided her to the handsome tom, she had never seen but she had a sense. Plus, she had overheard others talk of him. She stopped in front of him, sitting down. "Hello Wolf" she purred.

Wolfstar turned, his pale eyes taking in the sight of her, the smell, the smile. They all made him feel happy, comforted. He knew she'd stolen a part of him long ago by her kindness, and he also knew he'd never get that part back. But perhaps that wasn't a bad thing. After all, she was here, wasn't she? He had a chance to be with her, near her, to just bask in whatever precious moments he had with her.
"Hello there, Emberstare. It's been a while since someone called me by my old name." He said, smiling. With Stormstar's death, few cats knew the truth behind his heritage. It was not well known who his parents were. In fact, only a few of the elders knew of it, and they spoke of it in whispers if at all. He was glad of that, though. It was less humiliating, having every cat think he wasn't related to the tabby kitten that had such a disgraceful lineage and had been rejected from all four Clans.

Emberstare smiled. She drank in the familar, warm scent. He had always had a hold on her and she didn't care. She had fought for him to be in the clan and now he was leading it.
"Not many know your real name" she reminded him. It was something that was never really spoke about. "How have you been?" she asked.

Wolfstar smiled a little. That was true; most cats didn't know much about him except that he'd been many places in his short lifetime. He'd traveled since he was barely old enough to eat caught prey, let alone hunt it for himself, as he'd been forced to do a lonely lost kit, seperated from his brother and sister.
"I've been... alright. It's hard, without Stormstar here..." he meowed, pausing for a moment and then blinking and focusing again on Emberstare, "How are you?" He asked, trying hard to keep the affection that automatically stirred in his voice from overwhelming his question. That'd only make him seem suspicious to her. He wanted nothing of the sort. He only wanted her acceptance. That was all.

Emberstare smiled, her amber gaze locked on him. "I think your doing a great job" she mewed. "I've been good, lately i've been proving to some pesky apprentices that I can hunt, fish, fight and stalk without my sight."

Wolfstar couldn't help but smile and shake his head in awe. He admired Emberstare so much. She had proven that determination was all one needed to suceed, and this admiration only fueled his feelings more. He couldn't take his eyes off of her, and he hoped she couldn't sense him just staring, staring and memorizong her face, from her sloping nose-bridge to her fur-tipped ears. Her muzzle, curved into a smile, tinged with white frost as a fresh Leaffall morning, the 'M' shaped dark marks on her forehead... And her eyes. Dark autumn eyes that reminded Wolfhowl of the mountains, of the copper ore that a friend had once shown him, shining brilliantly in the sunlight...
"You're just amazing, you know." He meowed, letting slip the thoughts that ran through his mind, running so much easier on his tongue. He blushed a little but didn't look away. Her slim, soft body, tinged with dark ginger, enticed him so. He couldn't look away from her.

Emberstare felt his gaze penetrate her fur. It didn't bother her, she liked it. She felt like she could do or say anything around him. She felt free. "I know" she mewed with a bright smile. "You're pretty amazing yourself" she said, twining her tail with his.

Wolfstar couldn't help but start a little at her tail's seemingly self-willed movement. He didn't mind the gesture, though, and just allowed himself a smile. How he yearned for her to see his face, how longing his eyes were and how bittersweet his smile was.
"Thanks. But if it weren't for you, I would've been a rouge forever, probably." He meowed. He wanted to know so badly what she felt. Did she love him, like he loved her? He hoped so. Deep inside of his heart, he wanted her to love him.

Emberster purred. "And you wouldn't be our leader" she mewed "but you are." Warmth swelled in her chest. "I love you" she mewed, licking his muzzle.

Wolfstar's body probably acting mostly on its own, but it jerked away from her in shock, his paw held to his shoulder and his eyes wide. He was a bit stunned at the moment, speechless.
"Y-you... what...?" He sputtered. He'd never have imagined this, and for a moment he let his tail drift into the river just to make sure he wasn't dreaming. The cold was proof enough. He was awake.

Emberstare just stared at him. "You don;t feel the same way" she said, turning her head away. How could I be so stupid? she thought.

Wolfstar was so shocked her words didn't hit him at first. Then they did, and he felt the words bubble forth from his mouth - most of them not even thought through.
"No, I didn't mean - I, I really do feel the same way! It's just... I always thought you were so amazing, how could you like me? I mean, I'm no one special, I'm just..." He clamped his mouth closed and sighed in defeat.

She turned her sightless gaze back to him. "You're amazing" she mewed "I don;t know how you even survived."

Wolfstar chuckled a little, despite the odd circumstances.
"Oh it wasn't hard. I had help, all along my journey. I'd say you'd be amazed what you can do when you're forced to adapt, but you'd know that better than me, I would think." He meowed a bit sheepishly.

She just smiled. "Another cat talking about my sight" she said teasingly.

Wolfstar's face fell.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel bad..." He meowed guility. Foxdung, why do I have to be such dog-head? He thought sullenly.

Wolfstar smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, um... Ok. Hhmmm... Even as leader I feel as I did in the alleys of Ridgetown, with those pesky alleycats clinging to my fur at every step." He said somewhat sadly, remembering.
