Gaara crouched beside his mate and licked her muzzle gently.
"It's Ok. You're going to be... ok..." He closed his eyes and stiffened, his whole body uptight. He then turned to Okkurein, his expression grave.
"You've come for them haven't you?" He asked. Okkurein's gaze flickered and then she nodded.
"Yes. We have."
"I see..." He turned to Essence.
"Please stop doing that. I know it's you." He sighed. Okkurein turned slightly and saw the blank-faced she-cat suddenly seemed to snap back into her body. She blinked slowly and then shuffled her paws.
"It's time." Gaara said solemnly. Essence closed her eyes and then padded across to Barley and Okkurein and Ivy. She dipped her head.
"I am Essence. I can see memories, hear thoughts. Implant my own in other's minds." She said, a faint smile tracing her pretty but strangely pattered face. Barley smiled brightly.
"I'm Barley! I can heal when I touch things!" he exclaimed.
"Okkurein. I can blend into my surroundings." She said tartly.

Fell shook his head. "Dad, what's all this? Is mom going to be okay?" He asked as he looked at his mother. She stood and nodded. "I'm fine." She said, a little dazed. Startled Heron turned to see Essence, and then Fell. She was utterly lost in what was going on, and the poor little thing began to sniffle sadly. Essence was leaving. Why?

Essence turned to her sister and brother with a soft sigh.
"It is time for us to leave. It's our destiny." She said queitly. Okkurein looked at her and wondered what it must be like to read minds. She knew well enough that her own powers wouldn't work on the other Chosen, and she was sure that Essence was no exception.
"Birdie... they're Chosen. All of them." He murmured, looking up at Okkurein, Lily, Barley, and Essence in one group, and then at Fell and Startled Heron standing a little off to one side. While it's not a shock to Essence, it is for them. He thought. But they'll get used to it. A familiar voice replied.
"I told you to stop that." He sighed. Essence blinked and smiled.
"Force of habit." She meowed gently.

[[Ivy, you said Lily...]]
Fell shook his head. "No. I don't care what my stupid destiny is. Nobody tells me what to do. I'm staying here." He said in a voice so commanding it scared his poor little sister Startled Heron. She began to quiver and her voice faltered. "I-I think w-w-we sh-should go, bro-o-ther." "Go then." He said, turning away from her and the rest of the group. "I'm not coming. And I'm not special." He glanced at Birdie who looked somewhat shocked. You've told me enough, old woman. And now I think I believe you. He thought about his mother rather coldly.

Okkurein looked at Fell calmly, her sad blue eyes half closed.
"If that is what you might wish. Just know... you'll never find true happiness if you shirk your duty." She said quietly. She turned to Startled Heron and smiled gently.
"You are more than welcome to come." She said. Barley smiled, too.
"Yeah! You should totally come!" He exclaimed. Essence looked at him and then smiled. He sure is energetic. She thought.

[[Sorry, he needs to hurt one more cat before he can go...]]
Fell nodded. "Glad you understand." He said darkly. True happiness. Is that what mother means by 'live up to the standards of him before you'? That sure seems like it. Fell wanted to question his mother about what she meant, always talking about 'him' and how Fell was nothing like the standards she'd set. What standards? Who? But he figured the answers would come, all in due time.

OOC: S'cool. They've got time.
BIC: Essence looked at her brother and blinked slowly. She wished she could read his mind for one moment, know what he was thinking. But she couldn't. Now I know what every other cat feels like. She thought with a sigh.
"Poor little Fell..." She muttered, thinking of how their mother favored him because he reminded her of some old tom she used to love and then killed. Gaara was much less gloomy, despite his tragic and emotional past. Essence wasn't surprised her mother didn't like her - after all, the feeling was somewhat mutual. Essence yawned and turned to Okkurein.
"Are we going then?" She asked.
"Mm." Okkurein murmured, nodding and then dipping her head to Gaara.

Startled Heron smiled in a friendly fashion at the young kit that had fuzzy blue eyes and a strange look about her. "See you, ma. Pa." She said sweetly, in her childlike voice that never seemed to falter. And right as she was ready to set off, Birdie looked up from her son and froze. "Wait..." She said, cocking her head to one side and frowning. "Barley? Ivy? Is that you?"

Barley turned, pricking his ears.
"Hmm? Oh, you're Birdie, right? Yeah, my name's Barley, how'd ya know?" He asked curiously. He wondered a little at the two cats before him, but there wasn't all that much time for questions - and from the look Okkurein had displayed both when she spoke and when she actually saw Gaara had puzzled him to the point of being a bit afraid of the huge ginger tom.

[[Hehe, how did Gaara's brother end up with Birdie's daughter? Isn't that a huge age gap or something??? xD]]
"B-b-barley?" Birdie stuttered, her heart racing frantically and her eyes suddenly wide with surprise. "You're my... grandchildren..." She blinked in surprise. Suddenly, Ivy smiled at Birdie. This could be their one chance at meeting their mother. That is, if Birdie knew where she was.

Barley instantly perked up.
"Really? Does that mean you know where our parents are?" He asked eagerly. Essence eyed him for a moment and then turned to look at her father. Gaara knew - of course he did - or had an idea, but... It wasn't something Barley would want to know, she was pretty sure. Especially since... Essence lowered her head but said nothing.

"I guess I might." Birdie admitted with a smile, suddenly realizing that it meant that her daughter could finally be returned to her kits. And what a day that would be. And then Birdie realized that they probably already knew where there mother was. Right? Had they been separated?
At that very moment somewhere on the other end of the forest, a queen screamed a cry of pain for her mate Renegade.

Barley blinked.
"Oh? Well, um..." He looked at Okkurein hopefully. The she-cat was looking at Essence, who was staring intently back at her. Finally she sighed.
"I'm afraid not, Barley. It would be too dangerous to go looking for him." She meowed. Barley's ears drooped.
"What? Why?"
"It doesn't matter," Okkurein snapped, "We have to go anyways." He was silent, miserable, staring at Gaara and Birdie sullenly.

The normally quiet Ivy suddenly began to bristle. She squinted her blind eyes, bared her fangs briefly, and then shook her head. "No, I'm going to find my mother and father. And you can say what you like but I want to meet them. Barley, come on." Ivy said, turning and padding over to stand where she thought was near Birdie. Startled Heron sighed and tried to pretend none of this was actually happening.

Essence turned slightly to Barley.
"Do you know anything about your parents?" She asked coolly.
"No." he replied miserably.
"I thought not." She yawned. "They're living with our enemy at the moment. It would be very dangerous for us to face them now, but perhaps...?" She turned slightly to look at Okkurein. The she-cat bristled.
"We can't go near that crazy cat! She'll kill us, and so will that big oaf-" Gaara growled.
"That's enough. If the kits have been seperated from their parents, then they should get a chance to see them." He said.
"But he will kill them! Like he killed my family! Like he tried to kill me!" Okkurein spat.
"He's not like that anymore. I agree Chaos will do all in her power to kill you, but not Renegade." Gaara said calmly. Okkurein's eyes flared until they seemed to wield the ability to strike one down with a mere glance. Finally she shook herself.
"Fine then. It's your funeral. We'll go to the border but no farther." She snarled.

Ivy nodded. She knew her parents would never harm their own flesh and blood, and it made her feel good to think that she might actually get to meet her mother. SHe bounced a little with excitement and joy, and then nodded. She was eager to get going.
-
But Ivy had no idea what six moons had done to her mother. Borderline evil, and starting to tip, the she-cat cried out again. "Renegade!" She hissed, only to get no response again. Where was her mate? It wasn't safe for her, right on the border of their land, waiting for something to come and take her away. She breathed heavily and cried a bit for her mate until the first kit came. And a second, third, and a fourth. All beautiful and making her proud. Her beautiful new kits...

Renegade padded through the forest, happy enough to be away from the camp and all those murderous cats. He knew his own killer instinct was strong enough, but he wasn't quite like them. Ruthless. Cunning. They were all like Chaos really, only usually less coniving. He heard his mate's voice and snapped out of his reverie. He darted after the sound and emerged to see her, with kits curled up at her belly.
"Foalan!" He cried happily, rushing forward to nuzzle her gently.
____
Okkurein sighed and looked up into the sky, remembering how it felt to have that enormous tom's teeth fastened in her name and his claws shoving her the last length into the chilling depths of the river. Her gaze hardened. No... I don't think he could change. She thought, feeling a pang in her heart as her brother's smile, her adopted mother's laugh, her father's presence... wafted past on the breeze, lost to the sands of time and the claws of her mother and uncle. Hatred swelled inside of Okkurein, but she supressed it as well as she could, smoothing out the furious look on her face and turning to Gaara with a stiff bow.
"Lead on then." She said tensely.

Foalan nodded and rather dryly nuzzled her mate back. The darkness of this time and this Clan was beginning to wear on her, but being the healer kept her sane enough. And having a new apprentice to focus her time on also helped. She looked down at her kits and sighed, looking back up at her mate. "I've always been a fan of ancient names, Greek and such? I think they;d fit the kits beautifully..." She said with a soft sigh, her old self shining through in her sweet eyes and gentle grin.

Renegade smiled a bit sheepishly.
"Sure... you'll have to name most of them then I'm afraid... I don't know any geek." He said thoughtfully.
OOC: heheh, he said geek XD classic

Foalan shook her head, her eyes somewhat glazed in a strange and dark manner. "Greek, dear boy, Greek. I'm always into their creative names." She said in an oddly hushed tone that was hardly her own anymore.
