Icetalon lay in the clearing. The buzzing of the clan was distant from her. She heard nothing more than a mumble. She was in almost silence. Her thoughts consumed her. She wondered about her sister and what her sister was doing. Not that it really mattered, they hadn't spoken for many moons. Thought of her parents flashed through her head. An image of her happy familly lingered in here mind. A single tear rolled down her cheek. She quickly banished it with a swipe of her paw. She was surrounded by life yet living in silence. Will anyone ever break her internal silence?

Arcticstar padded into camp, her eyes on her destination- the fresh kill pile. But before she had reached the mouse she would soon pick up, she spotted Icetalon, her deputy, laying in the clearing. Sauntering over, she went to see what was wrong with the cat. "Hello, Icetalon," she greeted her with concern in her usually warm blue eyes. "What's wrong?"

Icetalon heard a distant mewing. The image of her happy family still lingered in her mind. She snapped out of the silence. Articstar was speaking to her. "Uh..hi" she mewed. "Nothing's wrong" she lied. "I was just thinking" she mewed.

"Ah," Arcticstar said softly. She knew the deputy was lying, but this could be personal. "Would you like to share the mouse I was just going to pick up from the fresh-kill pile?" She smiled warmly at Icetalon, her fluffy white fur blown by a sudden wind.

Icertalon didn't know how long she was laying there. She didn't realize she was hungry, until the hunger clawed at her belly. "Sure" she mewed with a smile.
