Darkness all around... a chill that never left, making the she-cat's body numb. The only thing she felt was a terrible fire in her chest, raging despite the damp, dreary space that surrounded her. Her peircing blue eyes were half-open, lifeless, her whiskers drooped and her legs hung into the air. Her body was limp, her ears sagging slightly. Her world was empty. She was silently falling, without even a trace of movement. Finally, she landed in a pool of water even colder than the air had been. Her eyes widened and her mouth opened in shock, sending a few bubbles to the surface of the black pool. She flailed uselessly with her paws, her red claws tearing at the freezing waters around her. Slowly everything became stiff, and she could no longer move. She gasped for air, but water filled her mouth and choked her. She could feel herself sinking, sinking... Now even the ripple of the water's surface was gone. The she-cat gave one final, desperate jerk, and then closed her eyes and let the darkness consume her.
"Wakey, wakey, little kitty!" Mistpaw's eyes slowly opened. Her muscles screeched in protest as she tried to move, and she let her body go limp again. Her lifeless blue eyes looked up into the face of a white cat. Two strangely purple-tinted eyes stared down at her, a little unfocused.
"So, you've decided to join the land of the living at last, eh?" The she-cat cackled to herself, her throaty laugh sounded very strange to Mistpaw's ears. She shook her head, wondering why she felt so cold.
"Oh, sorry 'bout that. I figured I'd clean off your wounds... Er, the taste o' blood don't rest well in me stomach, so I used the pool water." She meowed sheepishly. Mistpaw blinked and looked up at her, dazed.
"W-who are...?" She murmured, but her throat burned so she couldn't manage to finish her sentence. The she-cat grinned crookedly.
"Name's Wildeyes." She meowed. Mistpaw shook her head and looked around her.
"Where are we?" She asked faintly.
"At the pool between ShadowClan n' WindClan." Wildeyes replied. Mistpaw blinked, trying to move but finding it once again too hard.
"What happened?" Mistpaw croaked hoarsely.
"Ye'll be needin' some water. Here." Wildeyes pushed a wad of wet moss towards Mistpaw and watched as the she-cat licked it up greedily.
"As for what happened," Mistpaw looked up, surprised by the serious voice that seemed to be coming from some other cat entirely, "I found you nearly dead not too far from here. You were covered in scratches and bruises. I've never seen a cat inflict so much pain on themselves." She said, almost a little sarcastically towards the end. Mistpaw remember then what had happened. She silently rested her muzzle against her forepaws and stared blankly ahead. Her heart ached, creating that peircing fire once again.
"Well..." Wildeyes looked up into the sky and squinted. Mistpaw looked up at her blankly, her gaze once again blank.
"I'll be going hunting now." The crazy-looking white she-cat meowed, stalking off into the brush. Mistpaw watched without the slightest interest. Oh StarClan, she thought sadly, I hope you're watching over Canyonpaw... don't waste your eyes on me. She turned away from the pool and closed her eyes, though sleep refused to come.
