The dark she-cat sat with her thick, long tail curled around her forepaws. The wind stirred her strangely wiry fur and caused her eyes to water a little. She blinked and then turned to see a ginger she-cat prowling towards her, a black bird dragging a little as the stocky, fluffy she-cat stalked up.
”Got you some food, sis. How’s the whole watch thing going?” The ginger asked. The grey’s eyes, a strange mixture of grey and pale blue, averted themselves to the vast landscape.
”As good as it’s going to be I suppose. Have you seen Death and Phoenix lately? I’m a bit worried about them.” She sighed.
”As I understand it they went hunting. Wraith probably went with them.” The ginger yawned.
”I see…”
”You look thoughtful, Cross. Anything bothering you?” Cross’s sister demanded. Cross closed her eyes and sighed, bowing her head so that her cross-shaped ginger mark on her neck rippled in the evening sun.
”Not really. It’s just… I was thinking of mother.” She managed a sigh, then turned and looked down at her sister, ”Do you think it’s foolish… to wish things had been different, Angel?” She inquired.
”Not foolish. I don’t think any cat wants to leave their parents – except perhaps Death and Phoenix.” She muttered dryly.
”I guess. It just bothers me on days like this. I wonder where they are… what they’re thinking… I wonder if they regret bearing us all… I never wanted to shame mother or father…” She said sadly.
”You didn’t shame them… but let us have enough of this talk for now. Who knows when those rascally toms will return? And if they do I sure don’t want to be talking about such a sore subject.” Cursedangel said, frowning as she yawned and nudged the blackbird towards her sister. Shadowcross eyed Angel for a moment, then dipped her head and took a bite. I guess she’s right. Shadowcross thought with an inward sigh.
