Wood crackled as a tree was licked by the fire. Amber eyes looked frantically through the smoke. “Mom, mommy!” Flamekit yowled. Her eyes were burning from the thick black smoke. She saw something in the distance, she ran towards the golden she-cat. She skidded to a halt as she watched the horror unfold. A tall tree fell, landing on her mother, Goldenclaw. Flamekit stared at her mother, sparkling tears falling to the ground.
The young ginger she-cat turned to run. She ran through the forest, her paws aching and burnt. She found shelter under a nearby bush. Her stomach growled, for she hadn’t eaten for awhile. She closed her amber eyes, darkness saving her from the lonely and fearful hell she was trapped in.
A glittering raindrop rolled off a leaf, landing on Flamekit’s muzzle. Amber eyes fluttered open and she got up, her paws in fiery pain. She limped out of her shelter and padded through the cool, green forest. She stumbled into an unfamiliar place, DrippingClan and collapsed.
Flamekit opened her amber eyes, her paws felt cool. A cream coloured she-cat and a tabby sat talking. The cream she-cat turned to her. “Hello, I’m Mysticstar” she mewed. “Flamekit” she replied. “What happened?” Mysticstar asked. Flamekit explained about the fire, her mother’s death and her lost family.
Flamekit was led to the nursery. “Come back tomorrow so I can check your pads” Goldenstream, the medicine cat, told her. Flamekit nodded and slid into the nursery. A tan coloured tom padded over, his long tail waving behind him. “Hi, I’m Solarkit” he mewed. “Flamekit” she said with a smile. He talked to her about his family, she did the same.
Flamekit settled into her nest, darkness falling over her. A golden she-cat came into view. “Mom” she mewed with a smile. Goldenclaw smiled. “I’m always here” she mewed “I love you.” She disappeared from view. “I love you too” Flamekit mewed.

“You are now known as Flamepaw,” Mysticstar announced. “Icepool will be your mentor” she mewed. The Siamese she-cat padded over to her new apprentice. “Would you like to start training?” she asked, Flamepaw smiled and nodded.
Flamepaw followed her mentor out of camp. What will I learn first? Flamepaw thought. Lost in thought, Flamepaw followed her mentor absent mindedly. “Wait!” Icepool yowled. Flamepaw stopped in her tracks and looked at her mentor. “You almost went into SunsetClan,” Icepool mewed. “Sorry,” Flamepaw mewed, scuffling her paws, embarrassed.
“Here’s the most important border,” she mewed. “Be careful not to cross it, if you want to keep your fur.” Flamepaw nodded and noticed the different scent. She watched her mentor mark the border. She followed Icepool as she listened about OceanClan and LightningClan.
Flamepaw finally got back to camp. She trudged to the fresh-kill pile. She selected a warm shrew and padded to a shady spot. She quickly ate the shrew, burying the bones. She got to her ginger paws and padded to the apprentices den. She said good night to Solarkit as she passed. Ginger fur disappeared among the brambles. Flamepaw padded to a nest in the far corner. Lying down, she drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Darkness covered the camp, icy blue eyes peered through the entrance. The young she-cat slid through the entrance. She was careful not to disturb the tabby tom guarding. She found a secluded cove in camp and lay down. Sweet sleep fell over her.
Amber eyes blinked open, early dawn light filtering into the den. Getting to her paws, Flamepaw stretched. She padded out of the den, dawn light illuminating her pelt. Mysticstar caught her eye, she was looking at something. Flamepaw padded over, a familiar silver shape coming into view. “Icykit!” she exclaimed. She ran to her, stirring her sister. “Your lost sister?” Mysticstar asked. Flamepaw nodded happily.
Blue eyes focused on the ginger she-cat. She jumped to her paws. “Flam,e” she mewed, nuzzling her. “Icy,” she mewed, she gave her a few loving licks. “Where’s aunt Silver?” she asked Icykit. “I lost her 2 sunrises ago” she replied. Flamepaw nodded, she turned to her leader. “May she stay?” she asked. Mysticstar nodded, “Take her to the nursery.”
Flamepaw led her sister to the nursery, pausing to grab a squirrel. She squeezed into the nursery. She went and lay in the bare spot in corner. Flamepaw took a bite of the squirrel. “Where have you been?” she asked. Icykit explained how she had been in a hollow with Silverwind, Leafmist and Cheetahstreak. Flamepaw told her of the clan and how it was her new home. They talked for a while, eventually falling asleep.

Flamepaw padded into the training hollow. Bright newleaf sun warmed her ginger fur. Icepool followed close behind. “Are you ready?” she asked. Flamepaw got into her fighting stance and nodded. Icepool ran towards her. Flamepaw leaped into the air and angled towards the ground. She slid under Icepool and kicked with her hind legs. Icepool landed on her side, she got back to her paws. “Great move” she mewed.
Flamepaw absorbed the praise of her mentor, completely oblivious. Icepool landed squarely on her shoulders, Flamepaw was shocked. Swiftly rolling, her mentor fell. She pounced on her mentor, taking advantage of the fallen Siamese she-cat. She hit her face with a sheathed paw. Icepool kicked her belly, knocking her off. Ginger fur rolled through the sand. She got to her paws, breathing heavily. Icepool smiled, “great job.”
Flamepaw padded into camp. She headed for the fresh-kill pile, she selected a warm squirrel. The hunting patrol must’ve just returned she thought. She headed to the flat rock to eat. She ate slowly, savouring the flavour. “Get some rest, we’re on dusk patrol,” Icepool meowed. Flamepaw smiled and nodded. She pushed the rest of the squirrel towards her mentor. Ginger paws retreated to the apprentice’s den. She lay in her nest, amber eyes viewing darkness.
Flamepaw blinked open her amber eyes. A yawn escaped her maw. Pushing to her paws, she stretched and pushed out of the den, her ginger fur just missing the brambles. She headed for the fresh-kill pile, nodding to her newly apprenticed sister. She was to be on the dawn patrol. The slim ginger she-cat selected a rabbit from the pile and headed to the nursery. “Morning, Silverwind,” she meowed. She gave the rabbit to her pregnant aunt. Silverwind smiled. “Thanks, sweetie,” she purred. Flamepaw lay down beside the silver she-cat. She took time top chat, before she was to go on a hunting patrol.

“SunsetClan’s coming,” Leafmist ran in yowling. “They’ve just past the border. Pheonixwraith, Darkclaw and Ivypaw are watching them,” she added. “Flamepaw, Wolfpaw, Blazepaw – nursery.” Iceypaw, Solarpaw elders” she ordered, “Phoenixwraith, Whiteheart, and Sunheart” she called “Come with me?” She raced out of camp, the warriors at her heels. She headed towards the Sunset Clan border. She leapt towards a tabby warrior, her cream pelt getting lots in the sea of clashing warriors.
Flamepaw dug her claws into the soft earth. “I want to be battling out there” she complained. Wolfpaw rolled his eyes, “But you’re here.” “Pointlessly guarding the nursery” she added. “It’s important” he mewed. Flamepaw rolled his eyes, the bickering continued. A muscular ginger tom sat watching. “Quiet!” he mewed. They both stopped and looked at Blazepaw. “That’s enough, you’re stuck here” Blazepaw mewed, “Deal with it.” Flamepaw slunk over to the shadow of the nursery, amber eyes watching.
~ 2 Moons later ~
Flamepaw sat looking at the leader. “Do you promise to uphold the warrior code?” Mysticstar asked. Flamepaw mewed “I do.” “Then by the power of Starclan, you shall be known as Flameheart” she announced. “Flameheart, Flameheart” the clan cheered. Icypaw raced up to Flameheart. “Congratulations” Icypaw mewed, nuzzling her sister. Flameheart smiled and gave her sister a lick on the ear. “You’ll be a warrior soon” she mewed.
The moon was high in the night sky. Two ginger cats and a brown cat sat in the clearing. Crickets could be heard coming from the bushes. Amber eyes were focused on the ginger tom. A smile was on Flameheart’s muzzle. She couldn’t wait to chat with Blazefang, he was amazing. I love you she thought. Images of what their conversations would be like rolled through her mind. The night sky disappeared, early dawn light rolled through the clearing.
Flameheart padded over to the oak tree. A large shadow covered her. She sat down and folded her tail over her paws. She was waiting for Blazefang. “Hello” Blazefang mewed. “Hi” Flameheart said. He lay down across from her, meeting her gaze. They lay there and talked. The sun climbed higher in the sky. Flameheart took a deep breath. “I love you.” She turned away. What have I done? she asked herself. “I love you too” Blazeheart mewed, his voice sounded like music. Flameheart turned back and he licked her muzzle. She purred and nuzzled his flank.
