Otherstar wasn't having a very good day. Her thoughts raced here and there, too many things and not enough time. She watched her mate enter the Nursery, and smiled. He must be going to see Angel's kits. She thought with a smile. And then it hit her. He was going to see their kits! Otherstar had completely forgot about them! Then she remembered her first kit. Angel's-kit. Angel's-kit was known as Willowpaw now. She was alive and thriving, or so Otherstar figured. She was a RiverClanner now, happy and loving. Not negative and angry, a good cat to be around. What a change that had to have been! What a wonderful change indeed. And then there was Devil's-paw. She was to be made a warrior soon, being proper age now.
And the other apprentices, some of them were due for names as well. Right? Or was Otherstar just a forgetful nitwit? Then there were her other kits who need to become apprentices. Mentors, who would make a good mentor? Tempeststorm's kits were proper age too, right? Right? Sometimes Otherstar felt that she would never make a good leader. But she'd done it before, just not with so many apprentices and kits. She would be fine. She was doing fine. Otherstar just kept telling herself she was destined to be a great leader. But not a great mother...
Otherstar suddenly wished for a second chance to prove her mothering skills. She was a great leader, but she could scarcely raise a kit right. Her first litter had not been for love. One of her kits had even committed suicide, or at least attempted to. The other was a little odd, and seemed out of place. Otherstar didn't even remember what some of her kits looked like! There was... Googolkit, he was easy. And Timekit. And Twokit, and Hundredkit. But hadn't there been another kit? Otherstar could hardly remember. She couldn't remember her own kits names! How pathetic was that?
Otherstar felt sickness engulf her, and she hurried out of camp. The white snow was darkened by grey clouds that still threatened snow. She felt increasingly hungry, having not eaten in a quarter-moon. She could give lives unlike the other cats, and she was willing to. She had yet to lose a life, and as she padded through the snow she saw a bird circling the sky. It landed on the snow not too far away, and she pounced. It was an awkward pounce, but she managed to snag the bird. It died at the bite of it's neck, and she smiled. A scrawny hawk that was about the same size as a 4-moon-old kit. She gobbled it down without thinking, hunger overwhelming her. She felt somewhat guilty afterward, but realized her hunger had taken over before she could do anything.
It was odd how Otherstar had been acting. Only a few weeks ago she had been increasingly vomiting, and she was slowly growing suspicious that she might have kits. However, her stomach was not quite big enough to show anything. She looked like she had since she had started to starve, so there was no proof. She was just a little sore and sick, probably Whitecough or something. Sighing, Otherstar knew there was nothing out here for her. She did not feel sick since she had eaten that bird and she figured she had just been very, very hungry. So hungry I lost control.
Otherstar returned to camp to feel increasingly drowsy and sleepy, but she knew there was no time for sleep. She also was acting increasingly happy. The apprentices had shunned responsibility for cleaning the elder's den, but she did not even feel frustrated. Just happy. Confused, the leader decided it would be best if she had the ceremony now while she felt happy, and not so sick. Leaping up onto the Meeting Stump took three tries. She was getting weak, tired, hungry, and felt so much fatter. Probably just the extra weight of the bird she had eaten earlier. Standing as proudly as she possibly could, and trying not to fall over, Otherstar let out the familiar Clan call, loud as she could.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Meeting Stump for a Clan Meeting!"
[[Googolkit, Hundredkit, Twokit, Timekit, and Gigakit need to become apprentices. Devil's-paw and Dreampaw are to become warriors. Des, are Tempeststorm's kits old enough to be made into apprentices too? Who else needs stuff done?]]
