What is that sound? Is it mother? Is it father? I don't know. I can't see them. I can't hear their voices. I can't understand. Where am I? I can smell something foul. I can feel it on my paws. It's hot and sticky. There's some coming from me, too. Why? It must have something to do with those claws... with that pain. What had mother called it when I had cut my nose? Bleeding...? I am bleeding. I stare but I cannot see anything. Why is it so dark? Oh yeah. I'm in the den. But why? Oh yeah. Mother kicked me in here. But where is she...? I hear a sound. A sort of laughter, as mother would call it. But where did it come from? I see something crouching into the den. It's big. I feel teeth gripping my scruff. I lash out, but I cannot get loose. The big shape carries me into the sunlight. It's too bright, too bright against the red that splatters my parent's pelts. "Mother!" I cry, "Father!" The big shape snorts with laughter and carries me away. I can hear something. Water. I know it is water. But why is there so much of it? I had never heard of such a thing. It was so cold outside. The big shape set me down but kept me from moving by placing its paw on my tail. "You see, little kit, you have brought terrible sorrow onto all that come in contact with you. May your presence cause all to weep evermore." The big shape unsheathed his claws and struck me. I let out a terrible wail as I was shoved into the icy water. It covered me, surrounded me, drowned me. I flailed out miserably, but I could not keep my head above water. I could feel my senses fading, just when teeth fixed in my scruff. I coughed and sputtered some cat carried me to the opposite bank. He set me down and began licking my fur. He was big. His pelt was black and white, like father's. He had big, kind amber eyes. He was not like the big shape, that I could see. "What's your name?" The cat asked. My name. I did not quite understand, but then I remembered mother calling me something. Whatever it had been, in my fright I had forgotten. I shivered, my mind coming up blank. All I could remember were the big shape's final words. May you cause more to weep. "Weeping..." I murmured, wondering what such a word meant. The tom seemed startled, but I didn't think about that. He carried me to this place. He took me to the kind old grey cat, who called me Weepingkit. That is my name now. This place... RiverClan... it is my home now. The Queen Chasinglight... but I couldn't accept that.
Weepingkit woke from her dream, staring blankly ahead. Ever since Ghostkit - for some reason all cats were calling her Ghostpaw now - have left the warm place called the nursery, Weepingkit had been having bad dreams. But she didn't want to think about it, so she shut it out of her head. Everything was blank once more. Weepingkit stared out at the gathering of cats called the clearing. They were all talking loudly, but she understood little of what they said. Mother had been somewhat foolish - or at least that's what Weepingkit's father had said. She hadn't been able to teach Weepingkit many words. Father had tried, but Weepingkit was not a very fast learner. Even when Ghostkit - or Ghostpaw - had spoken to her, she had understood little but the warmth and sympathy in the kit's voice. Weepingkit let out a soft sigh. It was on days like this that she felt... detached. She couldn't speak to any cat about what she was feeling. Her mother had had a way of telling without words, but these cats relied on speech more than Weepingkit liked. The kit sat staring up at the peep of skies from her nursery area. Weepingkit set her jaws as memories flitted through her barrier into her consious. She closed her eyes. Whatever happens, mother, I promise I will find a way to tell these cats what happened. I will be like father... Like you always wanted me to be. And no matter what... I will find out what my real name is.

Chasinglight heard little Weepingkit moving around in the den. She yawned, noticing something off with the kit. There was always something off with Weepingkit, but today more than others. She didn't understand this seemingly mute, seemingly deaf kitten. She wanted so much for Weepingkit to like her, but she could feel there was a large river between them and maybe weepingkit was afraid to cross or maybe Chasinglight couldn't swim. she shook her head and sighed. "Weepingkit?" She asked tentativley, hoping to somehow contact the lost kit. She moved a little closer, nuzzling the little kit. She wanted to ask Hello? Are you there? But maybe Weepingkit understood everyone and had a mind of her own, a dreamy, foggy, misty mind.

Weepingkit could hear her name. That was what it was, wasn't it? Weepingkit. That was her. She turned and looked up at Chasinglight. She felt the she-cat nuzzle her, and Weepingkit wondered if she thought of her as mother had. But she is not like mother. A frown creased Weepingkit's brow, but she relaxed and gave a little purr.
"Weepingkit..." She murmured, forming the words slowly. She smiled widely, her sparkling blue eyes giving a little meaning to her name. Weepingkit looked sad with those big, pale, luminescent blue eyes...

Chasinglight smiled back. "Yes..." She said, loving to hear Weepingkits cute voice. she sighed. "I'm C-H-A-S-I-N-G-L-I-G-H-T" She said slowly, hoping Weepingkit would say her name.

Ghostpaw bounded eagerly into the den, her white fur hidden against the snow. Shaking her wet pelt, she smiled at Weepingkit brightly. In her mouth was an assortment of odd objects. Setting them down in front of Weepingkit, Ghostpaw smiled. "Rock." She said slowly, forming every sound with her mouth. She pushed the rock toward Weepingkit.

Chasinglight's eyes darted up sharply to Ghostpaw. She had wanted to spend some quality time with her 'daughter' but she didn't say anything. Weepingkit seemed to have a connection with Ghostpaw.
Shadowpaw quickly slipped into the den. He had sort of liked Ghostpaw, but her father forbid it. He sighed as he waved a tail to his mother. "Hi, Ghostpaw." He said, his eyes glued to her.

Weepingkit listened intently to all the cats. She turned to Chasinglight and frowned in concentration.
"C-Cha... C-Chasing... l-light... Chasinglight..." She meowed unsurely. She turned to Ghostpaw and smiled.
"Ghostpaw." She looked down at the rock. Her mother had taught her a few words. It was a pale grey rock and she liked it. She batted it gently and purred.
"Gwey rock." She purred.

Chasinglight purred at the adopted kit. Weepingkit was smart, but it took her a while to get things. She got up and showed her the moss that she had been laying on. "Moss." She said, attempting to get Weepingkit say the new word.

Ghostpaw shook her head in dumb belief. "I never said grey rock. She knew that word." Ghostpaw felt glad to know Weepingkit was not stupid. She turned to Chasinglight and smiled.

Weepingkit beemed with pride at the cat's praise. She padded over to the nest and stared at the green stuff. Her mother had called it "bed", but then she had called anywhere they slept "bed". So "bed" must be made of "moss". Weepingkit looked up at Chasinglight, her big blue eyes wide.
"Moss bed. Sleep moss. Yes?" She asked, tilting her head to one side.

Ghostpaw gasped, smiling. "She's brilliant!" she cried and danced in a circle. She smiled as she pushed a pile of snow forward. "This is snow. It is cold." Ghostpaw smiled, licking the snow. She pushed a smaller pile to one side and breathed on it. "Water now." She spoke magically.

Weepingkit watched intently. But when the snow melted into water she squeaked with fright and ran to hide behind Chasinglight. She looked at it with wide, frightened eyes.
"Water cold... water cold like snow. Water bad. Water cold." She shivered, her eyes wide.

Ghostpaw put a paw in the water and spread it across the ground. It soaked into the ground, making a slightly moist patch of mud-like dirt. She pushed the rest of the snow outside before it could melt. "I know. Water bad." Ghostpaw said with a soft smile.

Weepingkit relaxed and looked up at Ghostpaw.
"Big cat bad water. Blood." She shivered, her eyes wide with horror as she remembered her dream.
"Mother... father..." She muttered incoherently, shivering and hunching her shoulders as she curled her little creme-and-ginger tail around her, as if protecting herself from something.

Ghostpaw watched Weepingkit with horror. She hurried over to the kit's side, trying to comfort her. "You're safe here. No big cats. No scary water. Safe." She meowed, nuzzling the kit gently. What ahd happened to Weepingkit? Why was the kit so scared?

Weepingkit relaxed. Her mother had used that word often. Safe. She knew what it meant.
"Safe. Safe is good." The kit meowed solemnly, staring up at Ghostpaw.
"Foolish. Foolish kitten. Lala." She meowed, turning her head from one side to the other.
OOC: lol I love how it's so hard to follow what in the world she's talking about XD

Ghostpaw purred in amusement, stroking Weepingkit's head with her tail. The two were about the same size, Ghostpaw realized with a sigh. One or the other was strange in size. Right? "Who is a foolish kitten?"

"Lala. Lala foolish. Lala. Mother foolish. I no foolish?" She mewed thoughtfully, looking up at Ghostpaw. Then she smiled.
"Father no foolish! Father big, strong! Not big strong like big cat. Big strong nice. Father good. Blood. Bleeding... why bleeding? Why hurts? Where...?" She began muttering again, her eyes filled with fear. She shook her head and whimpered. Why were the memories so horrible? I must stop speaking. It makes me think of them... She thought miserably.

Ghostpaw shook her head, smiling. "I have no past. I was born, my mother died, and I live here now. That's all I know." She meowed sadly, wishing she had known her mother. Maybe if her father didn't ignore her, and would actually treat her like family, she wouldn't feel so lost.

Weepingkit looked up at Ghostpaw. She had no word for that expression. But then she remembered the big cat's words.
"Sorrow." She said miserably. Little tears glistened in her eyes and she pulled away from Ghostpaw.
"I sorry! I bad! I bring weeping!" She sobbed, turning to sprint out of the nursery.
