Lark growled and looked over at smudge, who was lovey dovey with Hattie. Smudge looked down at his friend. Poor Lark. He purred at Hattie, unsure of what to say.

Smudge blinked and felt like laughing at Hattie's disappointment. "That's Lark, my friend. The Twolegs found her abandoned on the steps. She's 3 moons old.:" He leaned closer to Hattie. " I am so much older than her!"

"Age has nothing to do with it." She growled, jealous. She cats a dark glance at this Lark. "Your twolegs?"

Smudge blinked. Why was Hattie being so protective? "Yeah. My Towlegs." He looked at her warily. He knew she was just jealous, but he and Lark were best friends. He would never love her in that way.

"Then it's a matter of time." Hattied replied matter-of-factly with a sigh. "All good things in my life end swiftly." She hissed, glaring at Lark again.

Smudge sighed. "Hattie. I will never feel that way about Lark." By now the kitten was listening intently. Lark would rather have someone else than Smudge! "Hattie." Smudge repeated. "I will always love you."

"Right, that;s what they always say." Hattie hissed, turning and padding away from the group. Kayli rolled her eyes.
"Some she-cats are weird." the white she-kit meowed innocently.

Smudge watched Hattie go. "Hattie," He called, embarrassed. He liked Hattie so much! And besides, what was he supposed to do with lark? Give her to the warrior cats? He sighed.

"Well, just tell her that. She only wants to make you jealous so you forget about Lark. It's her own problem, not yours." Kayli sighed, shaking her head. Kyle leaped down uneasily, landing awkwardly next to her. The she-cat looked at her friend and nodded, proud he had actually made the leap without hurting himself.
