Deputy Ceremony

Articstar bravely sat on the Tall Root, calling the ancient words.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join me here for a deputy ceremony!"

The cool night air swirled around her paws, and her eyes were full of excitement. Her first ceremony as leader!

But no matter how much pride she had in her, there was still a hole in her heart. A giant, huge whole, that would take seasons to fill up. Maybe it would never heal. The pain of losing Talonstar and Stormcloud in less than one moon made everyone sour with pain.

But the clan would rejoice tonight, for a new deputy was to be appointed!

The young apprentice padded solemnly into the camp. After moons of training, he usually went out by himself, but since Stormcloud's death, he had been teaming up with other cats to bring in prey. Behind him trailed the beautiful Earthsong, her blue eyes filled with trouble and her dark tail-tip twitching. Midnightpaw set his prey down on the pile: two ravens and a rabbit from the WindClan border. It was a small offering, but it was the best he could do. Midnightpaw glared at the tabby form of Brokentail, who sat eyeing Articstar with a dangerous look in his eye. Well, dangerous to those who suspected his secret: that he had killed Stormcloud. Midnightpaw sat down near his leader, his grey-blue eyes trained on her form. Should I voice to her my thoughts about Brokentail? No. She would never listen to me. I'm only an apprentice, not even suited to becoming a Warrior, even though I must be twelve moons... He thought bitterly, his gaze resting now on his paws.

[kelsey .]

((XD want me to have Midnightpaw made a warrior?))

Articstar saw the bitter look in Midnightpaw's eyes. He was gazing at Broketail, the smell of hate all around him. She noted to herself that she would call Midnightpaw to her den this evening.

Molefur padded into the clearing, pride shinning from his pelt. Then he sat waiting for the ceremony to continue.

Shadowmask padded into camp quietly and proudly, as was his way. He was even more quiet than usual, lately. He was consumed with loneliness and uncertainty. It was the first time in his life where he felt he had lost his way.

[kelsey .]

Articstar looked around at her clan. " We are here to choose the new deputy for Shadowclan." She began nervously.

"Molefur, you are yo be deputy of Shadowclan."

She waited for the cheers to die down, and then she began the next part of her ceremony. "Midnightpaw and Dawnpaw, please step forward." She looked at the two apprentices in pride. "Midnightpaw, do you accept that you must guard your territory well, and serve your clan to the end of your days?"

The speed with which Articstar conducted the ceremony made Midnightpaw's head whirl. When she said his name, instead of feeling thrilled and excited, he felt a sense of foreboding. Padding forward, the apprentice looked up at his leader and blinked.

"I do." He meowed fearlessly, though that sense of eyes... murderous, hungry eyes watching him... lingered in his mind and heart still.

[Magicheart]

Shadowmask closed his eyes for a moment. Yes, Molefur would be a good choice for deputy...

[Tigercloud]

Roaringwaters watched from the shadows. Midnightpaw... The new warrior... I wonder... He might come looking for me after this... He smiled at the thought, but didn't really think it would happen. He knew the tom shared his thoughts on Brokentail, but didn't think they thought the same on anything else. Turning, he slipped away before he was seen. Silent runner and silent killer... Fun fun...[i/] he purred in his head as he left. His large paws took little noise as he ran off after silently going out of ear shot.

"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your name. Midnightpaw, you will be known as Midnightsun. May "StrClan light your path."

She turned to Dawnpaw. "Dawnpaw, I expect you will follow these codes. you had a great previous mentor." Sadness swept over her when she thought about her good friend, Talonstar and his mate, Stormcloud. "Your name shall be Dawncloud."

BIC: Midnightsun looked up at Articstar and dipped his head. He turned and padded towards his Clanmates, a serious expression on his face. He was never going to go back on his word. He would be the best warrior he could be!

Shadowmask nodded his congratulations to the warriors and began to fade into the shadows on the outskirts of camp.
