The dawn air was cold around Talonstars paws. He made sure the dawn patrol was out and all other cats were sleeping. Sighing he walked to the apprentices den to see his young. Acaciapaw had her paw up against Cloudpaws face, while Cloudpaw had his tail over Skypaws flank. Saying a silent good-bye, he left the den and went through the barrier.
The Thunderpath was eerily silent. Talonstar walked across slowly, then increased his speed. Suddenly, a horn blared, and headlights flashed bright in the pale sunlight. Talonstar shrieked as he was hit by giant black paws. He hit a tree and then the forest was silent.
Starry-looking cats surrounded him. He blinked. "I have lost a life." he said slowly.
Claws flashed. "No, you stupid duck! You've lost eight lives!" A tabby stepped forward. He recognized his sister immediately. "I'm sorry, Treepool." He dipped his head.
"Your rank is secured in Starclan." Treepool hissed.
"But who will be leader of Shadowclan?" he yelped.
"Come," Treepool ordered. The cats of Starclan followed. He recognized his mother next to a tan tom, and they were whispering.
Treepool led them to a small area of water. Treepool pointed with her tail to the pool. "Look,"
Talonstar stared into the pool and gasped. A long-furred white she-cat stood on a root, looking real. It was Articwind. And she was on the Tall Root. "Articwind has no apprentice!"
"She will apprentice Dawnpaw," A silver she-cat hissed. It was a kit. Talonstar remembered a kit dying when he was deputy, a kit named Starkit.
He nodded solemnly. The Starclan cats bounded out of the clearing, to the StarClan camp. His mother remained. "Talonstar," she breathed. "You will give Articwind a dream to come to the MoonStone tonight," she said.
He followed her through some Azalea bushes and the clearing where the pool was was empty.
((Articwind will receive nine lives today and her deputy will be a cat Shadowstar is currently making.))
