Hopewhisper got up and padded after him. There was something about him that caught her attention.

Fade padded along through the shadows, his expressionless eyes softening. He did not realize anyone was following him, so he padded to a place on the edge of the territory. He leaped onto a familiar rock, curling his tail around his forepaws. He stared out at the mountains, his face suddenly showing all the loneliness and anger he had held inside himself so long.
"Is there nothing more to life than pain and death?" He meowed sadly. Then he remembered Hopewhisper... Perhaps there is more after all. He thought.

Hopewhisper jumped up on a rock beside him. "Of course theres more to life than pain and death" she reassured him. She smiled trying to cheer him up.

Fade started, his face freezing. He turned and as soon as his eyes met Hopewhisper's instead of going blank like he usually did his gaze softened. He didn't quite know why, but when he was alone with her he felt a strange warmth in his chest. He slowly stretched out his muzzle and gently touched her shoulder.
"Yeah. There's you." He murmured, though he wasn't even sure why. He turned his gaze aside slightly, blushing to the roots of his fur.

Hopewhisper smiled. Her green gaze was vibrant. She was glad that he felt the same way. She lept over and landed beside him on the rock. She gave him a gentle lick. "Don't be embarressed" she mewed.

Fade smiled slightly. He liked how she could read him, though others never even tried. But Hopewhisper wasn't like them. She was different. Fade stared into her eyes and felt such happiness for the first time since his family had been together. He felt her caress on his cheek and purred softly.
"Well, I guess I'm just not used to showing cats how I feel." He meowed, smiling slightly at her.

Hopewhisper smiled. "Well theres always a time to start" she mewed. She entwined her tail with his. "You're the only one that makes me feel welcome" she mewed.

Hopewhisper smiled. She really liked him. He was the only one who made her feel welcome. She gave him a loving lick on his muzzle.

BIC: Fade felt her tongue on his muzzle and a tingle ran up his spine. He had never imagined feeilng this way. Ever since he was a kit he had hated everything, despised all around him. Ever since... he closed his eyes. He could still feel it, the warm blood engulfing him and the cold hard body beneath his paws. He looked up into Hopewhisper's eyes again and wondered what she had been through to end up in this place of darkness and misery. He looked at her and felt a warmth in his chest. Perhaps it wasn't so lonely though, with her by his side.

Hopewhisper could sense his past misery. Hopewhisper stared deeply into his eyes. She saw a gleam of hope in them behind the despair. She didn't want this moment with him to end.

BIC: Fade had never felt so alive as now. Sometimes he had wondered whether he was even alive, but now he couldn't doubt it. He purred softly and liked Hopewhisper's ear gently, his eyes half closed. He smiled at her and felt that strange warmth in his chest grow even warmer.

Fade stared up into the sky and smiled silghtly.
"This was the first place I ever saw when I came to these lands." He murmured. He was glad she was here with him, and he wanted to tell her that, but he couldn't find the words. Instead of speaking, Fade merely buried his muzzle in her soft fur and purred.

Fade stared out into the forest, his black ears angled forward on his head. His amber eyes flashed, and he crouched lower, his eyes displaying no emotion.
"You really should try not to intrude on me so often, little brother." Fade meowed emotionlessly. A pale blue flash emitted from the shadows, and the dark grey tomcat called Crescentscar padded out of the forest.
"Oh, but then I'd miss the show." The tom sneered.

Fade's eyes darkened.
"What happened to Loner, the little kit who always had an optimistic word?" He asked, a tint of regret in his voice. Crescentscar spat furiously, glaring at Fade.
"He grew up." He snarled.

Fade turned and smiled slightly at her.
"Oh, it's nothing. Just some petty scores unsettled, I suppose..." A faraway look entered his eye.
"Unsettled scores my paw!" Crescentscar spat. "You should have protected them! But you didn't. You didn't care. You never did." He growled. Fade's eyes flashed as he whirled on Crescentscar, his teeth bared.
"What do you know? You are the one who abandoned us, abandoned them! We couldn't have saved them, no matter how hard we tried. We were just kits!" Fade growled. Crescentscar glared at him.
"Well, this kit had to go off on his own, living off what he could find and getting picked off one little snip at a time. If you went through any of the hardships I did, Fade, perhaps you'd understand." Crescentscar hissed, turning and padding off into the shadows. Fade closed his eyes and shook his head. He could feel tears rising in his eyes for the first time since that awful night.
