Icesong padded quietly up to the Death Tree. She could easily be spotted because of her white pelt, so it really is no use trying to get away from the crowd every once in a while.
Sometimes she just wanted to think. She has always been alone, and had never experienced true love, so sometimes being out here by herself only felt natural. She just hoped the peaceful silence would last longer than the normal moments alone.
Love had always been something out of the picture in her head. When she pictured herself in the future, she saw herself as a leader, and a successful one at that. Icesong would base her dessions on the one and only Star Clan, and when death comes her way, she is reunited with her beloved parents, the two cats that grew her faith in the deceased.
The lonely she-cat sighed. The Death Tree was quiet, just the way she liked it. Her eye lids closed with ease, attempting to take in the moment...

The day was humid, airy... not at all pleasant. This sort of weather always irked Howl. It made his thick white-cream fur stick uncomfortably to his skin, and no matter how much he licked it, all was in vain; it just wouldn't cooperate on such days. So he slunk through the undergrowth, brushing his pelt on the bark of trees or even in brambles to untangle it. Although Howl cared little for appearances, he hated being dirty and matted in any way, due to the inconvieniance of such a state. His cold blue eyes flickered as he turned and pricked his ears, listening intently to the sounds of his Clan territory. He sensed someone's presence, and after a bit of sniffing detected the female scent of a SilenceClanner. His interest aroused, the tom padded out of the cover of bushes to see her standing there, her beautiful white fur as lucious and enticing as fur could be, her eyes intense and focused, her scent taunting him with its sweetness... Howl shook the thoughts from his head. He had never trusted any cat but Scab. No other cat could be trusted. No other cat. No other... cat... No other...
"Greetings, fellow," He meowed, almost against his will. His mouth moved and words formed - it was a strange reaction, one he was not prepared for. Howl stiffened, wondering at the enchantment of the she-cat's beauty. He tried to remember her name - in fact he could hardly remember his own, he was so stupified. He just sat there stiffly and looked at her.

The tom's meow surprised Icesong. She whipped around, fur bristled, only to relax again at the sight of her fellow clan mate, Howl. "Greetings." she meowed, in her beautiful ringing voice. "What brings you here to such a gloomy place?" she meowed, turning slightly away from the matted ball of fur.
Although he was simply appalling , something about him pulled her in. It was something that she had never felt before. It was only a little bit of that mushy feeling. The "sweet" she-cat pushed the emotion to the back of her head, making it the least of her worries at the moment.

Howl thought about the question as well as he could. He didn't want to seem a fool, but what reason did he have for coming here?
"No reason. Just wandering. Nothing else to do." He meowed a bit gruffly. After all, it was somewhat true. He didn't add that being around other cats made him irritable. That wouldn't help the situation much. It was uncomfortable being near her, he wanted to leave, but she held him as if he were a fly caught in a spider's web. And as he watched, the spider's eyes focused so disdainly, so clearly on him... perhaps, if he were lucky, she'd be disgusted enough with his appearance to leave him to untangle himself alone.

"Ok..." she meowed. "So...um...I'm Icesong..." she stuttered, then soon realizeing that he was in her clan. "I mean, you probably already know me...I mean, like..."
Why was she so nevous around this tom suddenly? She sighed. The fuzzy feeling got stronger, she felt it grow inside her.

Howl blinked and looked at her, wondering what was going on beside her head, what thoughts made her look so nervous. I certainly can't be having the same effect on her that she has on me. I wonder if I can trust her...? I really hope so... His heart ached as he looked at her, and he wondered at the expression on her face, the glow of her keen eyes, the shine of her pelt...
"I've seen you around, but I'm afraid I have no memory for names. Icesong... a very worthy name. I am Howl, if you did not know already." He meowed, trying to sort out his thoughts and calm himself and only partially succeeding.

"Hello Howl." she meowed, happy she didn't stutter. Did she, love this tom? His fur was matted, and he didn't know her name. What she-cat would fall for a tom like that?
'I think I do love him...' she thought, clearly readable on her face.

Howl looked at Icesong so intently, he thought that perhaps she may think him strange. But a part of him didn't really care. He just wanted to look, to study her face, to engrave it in his memory.
"So... what are you doing out by this strange tree?" He asked.

"I enjoy, quiet places..." she meowed. "Places where I can be alone. That's why I came here."
The she-cat sat down and studied her paws, as if ashamed of telling this tom what she was here for. "I think I love him..." she barley whispered to herself. Hopefully he didn't hear the coment, but a tiny part inside of her wanted him to hear it.

Howl thought perhaps he was invading on her privacy, the time she needed for herself. But his heartbeat, it was so fast, he couldn't breathe properly, he couldn't move very quickly, he couldn't think very well... she had captivated him, that was for certain. He looked at her for a few moments, and then thought he heard her whisper something... Love? Is that what she said? He wondered.
"Did you say something?" He asked, half hoping and half dreading the reply.

"Oh... Um...yeah. I did say something." she meowed, then sighed. 'Why must life be so difficult?' Icesong thought. This was the first tom she had ever crushed on, but her personality didn't show it.

Howl blinked.
"Oh... um... I didn't quite catch it. Care to repeat?" He asked, the whiskers above his eyes lifting a bit. He didn't know why, but he hoped beyond what he considered sanity that she really did love him. He could feel all the symptoms, knew that this shortness of breath meant he cared for her somehow. He had never believed in love at first sight, but he was beginning to rethink his claims on reality.

Icesong gulped. "I said...um... I think I love him."
The she-cat grew hot in emmbarasment. 'You've really gotten yourself into a mess!' the little voice in her head said. 'What happens if he dosen't like you? Then you've made a fool out of yourself.'

Howl blinked, and then felt as if cold water had been poured onto him. His shoulders drooped a little - hopefully not visibly, he couldn't really help the inclination - and his looked down at his paws.
"Oh, I see. Thinking of someone, are you?" He asked half-heartedly. Whoever it is, he sure is one of the luckiest toms I'll ever meet... if I do meet him, that is. He thought a bit jealously.

"Yeah..." she meowed, half relived that he thought it was someone else. "You know," she meowed, useing all of the courage she had. "I've never loved a tom untill I met um..." the she-cat gulded. "you."

Howl didn't quite understand for all but five seconds. Then his mind snapped and he almost sat down, his legs felt so weak all of the sudden.
"Me?" He echoed thoughtfully. He wasn't sure what to think. He'd always had problems trusting other cats... but... maybe just this once...
"Well... I certainly do love you as well, Icesong..." He said, staring at her with his intense, chilling blue eyes. He really did feel something for her, if not love. He thought it must be love. He had no other name for it.

"Yes you." she meowed in a playful tone. "You sound as if you've just been apointed Deputy."
She giggled, then stood next to him, so close their pelts brushed. She rubbed her head on his shoulder.

Howl stiffened at her touch, but then allowed himself to relax. She meant him no harm. He felt his defenses lessen, perhaps a door could be opened here or there... He looked into her eyes and smiled a little.
"Sorry, I'm... aahh, somewhat bad at expressing my emotions..." He said, flushing a little with embarrassment.

"It's OK." she meowed, twining their tails. "You know," she meowed. "This would be the worst moment for another cat to come padding along."

"What would be the worst moment for who what?" Howl flinched and turned slowly to look at the smug grin on his friend Scab's face. The tom sat there grinning at them, and Howl wished that the ground would just open up and swallow them both.
"Nice timing, buddy." He muttered.
"Don't mention it, pal. So, who do we have here?" He asked, raising the whiskers above his eyes in a curious manner
