The steady vibrations of Zebrapaw's lazy feet carried her to a place she never went-the gorge. Passing through the moorland laiden with clovers this time of year, she turned back to it's vast emptiness and took in the scents deeply. Fresh grass. Flowers. Green Leaf was steadily approaching. She loved Newleaf-She could freel vibrations so smoothly. In Leaf Fall it was to, well, leafy, in New Leaf it was too muddy, and in Leaf Bare it was too snowy. This time of year was just right. Why couldn't it stick around?
She mainly came to the gorge to think. The waters thrumming echoed through it's rocky disguise. She wondered what the scene looked like-Was it beautiful and rocky and majestic? Or a pit of death that was just shrubby and depressing? Many had thrown themselves off the gorge. She dubbed WindClan the craziest Clan. But lately..She had been thinking about throwing herself off.
Her parents hated her. She was blind. Could her life get much worse? The apprentices in the Clan hated her, too. She was a crude, evil cat. And everyone knew it. Why couldn't she be different? But maybe she liked being evil. It was a rush to feel that way. Powerful. she felt the thrum of water surging through her paws.
She blinked and thought about the view once more. I'm being pitiful. Only wussies who can't keep control of their lives throw themselves off. She took a few steps back. But the thrumming water made her relaxed from her usually crude self. But if some cats came..She wouldn't be afraid to smack them down.

It would seem that on this blissful Newleaf morning most cats would be genuinely pleased to be alive. But not Taintedpaw. He knew his brother's 'mission' was to bring world peace to the planet Tainted. However, he would fail miserably if he even attempted such a foolish feat. He'd only end up broken like Featherrain... Oh how Taintedpaw missed being her friend. And then she had left him, abandoned her only brother to be a Medicine Cat. But now she wasn't Featherkit, happy-go-lucky and always there. She wasn't Featherpaw, sad in the eyes and missing her brother. She was Featherrain, who never spoke to or tried to look at Taintedpaw. He was merely glass to her now.
He came upon the one place that had made and broken so many cats before him. And there near the edge was that stupid blind cat, what's-her-name. She was so weird, Taintedpaw thought. But that was the only reason he didn't like her. He didn't understand her. Sure she was blind and all, so? Taintedpaw's sister had abandoned him, and all she cared about was that she was blind and everyone pitied her. She had the world in her paws and she refused it for a darker path. It was all too strange for Taintedpaw, and he could hardly see why she was refusing attention, ease, and pleasure. She was probably as determined as he was. So alone he walked, Boulderpaw back cooing in the Nursery like some sap and Taintedpaw finding himself next to his fellow apprentice. "Hey." He said rather plainly.

Zebrapaw's blind eyes stared aimlessly at the sky. "Salutations." She said in a distasteful tone. Taintedpaw was the rude brother of Featherrain and Boulderpaw. In many ways, Zeebrapaw and him were alike. But Zebrapaw could count some many more differences. Or could she? "What brings you to the gorge? Has your life gone bad and now you want to throw yourself off? Don't worry, I won't watch." Her voice ended with a bitter sarcastic comment on her blindness.

Taintedpaw rolled his eyes and then remembered that she was blind. So silently he began to make stupid faces at her, before deciding that he had made himself feel better. "No, just thinking. I'm not stupid. But is that what brings you here?" He asked a little crudely, wondering if Zebrapaw was as depressed and crazy as she seemed most of the time.

Zebrapaw could feel his face muscles contorting through the stone and made a face herself. "I came here to think, too. The water rushing against the rock is calming." She said haughtily. At least Taintedpaw wasn't crazy. She wouldn't know what to do if he threw himself off. Maybe laugh. It's not like she'd feel bad..she barely knew him. She had no opinion on hi. At all.

Taintedpaw rolled his eyes. "Fine, whatever. I'm going hunting." He accented the word, his tone one that was tainted with the brag that might upset her. After all, hunting was so easy for him - everything was. He could see, after all, and she couldn't.

Zebrapaw let out a startled laugh. "I'm just as good as you at hunting, you know. Maybe even better. My senses are more superb than your normal ones." She said in a duh voice. Besides, she got by, didn't she? Her mentor never bugged her about not catching enough prey. Fighting was a breeze, too. She could feel where she was going, and feel her opponent moving even if she or he stepped lightly. Zebrapaw's blind eyes stared off with no point, but if she could see, she'd be staring challengingly at Taintedpaw.

"Right. Because it's so easy to see prey when it's not moving, frozen in terror as you accidentally step on a dried up leaf or a twig. They don't move, you know." He said, rolling his eyes and standing up, stretching himself out and turning to stalk off like normal. And he knew Zebrapaw was only trying to be cool - she was one of the worst hunters in the Clan. Oh well, though, at least she would do herself some good by jumping off - once Taintedpaw had left, that is.

[That's sort of a powerplay. You don't know anything about Zebra. She could be an excellent hunter.]]

[[Blind cats don't hunt well, Tilly... It's a con to the blind pro. Plus you can't call me on power-playing for his own opinion. It's Taintedpaw, Tilly, and he's got cruel opinions.]]

[Even a blind cat who can feel the softest, slightest movements radiating through the earth?]
Zebrapaw stared blankly at nothing, of course. She spun around and followed Taintedpaw at an easy pace, expertly swishing through obstructions. When she first became an apprentice, she had bumped into anything and everything. But she soon learned to wait and listen, and feel. She could feel Taintedpaw's easy pawsteps besides her own. She could feel a tree's roots underground and slid around it easily. She was smarter than most thought. "I'm not going to be absolutely pathetic and stupid and throw myself off, if that's what your thinking." Zebrapaw said primly.

[[But Taintedpaw thinks so. Plus Jaypaw couldn't feel movements like that. Toph could because she was an Earth Bender, but in the book series all the blind cats couldn't hunt well... And I don't think they could tell what facial expressions cats used either...]]
Taintedpaw turned around, his face spread with a grim and strange smile that meant only one thing. His eyes glimmering with a thrill he turned and shot forward like a bullet. Rocketing past Zebrapaw he through all of his cares away. He was a WindClanner and he would make the jump nobody had tried to make for a long while. And then he pushed himself hard as he could and sent himself flying across the gorge. It was a game that was difficult and dangerous, and Taintedpaw's front paws met soil while his back legs met nothing but air. However, he used his great strength to pull himself up onto the other side, turning to look back at Zebrapaw before continuing on in the opposite way.

Zebrapaw sat and curled her tail around her paws, bored by Taintedpaw's show. He'd be back. He'd get bored enough before long. And besides, she wasn't going to risk her life to prove anything. She knew her worth, and it was a great deal, at least to her. Taintedpaw was blinder than her. She smirked and waited patently.

Boulderpaw had been wordlessly padding along, not sure why Taintedpaw had ditched him while hunting. But when he saw his brother struggling with the leap, he raced over to Zebrapaw and sighed. His brother had made it, good, but narrowly. "He's crazy." Boulderpaw said with a soft sigh.

"Affirmative." Zebrapaw said blankly, ignoring Boulderpaw. Who knew what chasm's Boulderpaw could pull, considering he was Taintedpaw's brother? But maybe he was different. "He's a hothead. It's a matter of time before he hurtd himself." Zebrapaw wondered if Taintedpaw would hurt himself in the company of herself. Would she help him? Maybe not.
